Im still rocking a Q6600 @ 3ghz that is mostly suitable for my needs however I have recently gotten heavily into encoding. A new i9 would do wonders for that but since Intel loves its new release schedule I was wondering what we know about the new architecture. Is it still Nehelam based or are we looking at something totally new coming in ~6 months?
 
The previous i9 six-core nehalem, is actually now the i7 980. Sandy bridge, the next arch., is delayed until next year. i7 980 comes out in march iirc.

Yes.

Intel is doing a tick this year and a tock next year.
