When is it time for a new build?

I keep wondering about this question. I built my first machine in 05' and since have done an upgrades here and there.

I want new Harddrives, and Vista 64.... should i just rebuild? I mostly just play games, and they run quite well. Though, I often crash every now and then, and my XP install does not seem very stable.

AMD 64 X2 4600
4GB HyperX Kingston DDR 3200 ( ;) )
ASUS A8V-E
8800 GT 512MB

When your current system can no longer satisfy your needs.

I'd probably stick with your current rig and wait for i7 prices to drop more. Go ahead and snag the new drives and OS, you can always put them in your next system. (you could try windows 7 rather than buying 64 in hope that a retail version of 7 will be available whenever the beta dies).

Your issues sound software related, not hardware. Is your XP install a little long in the tooth?
