IMO, an overclocked processor should be able to do anything a stock one can. Prime95 stable for 24 hours, Memtest stable for 24 hours, etc. No errors whatsoever.

I know some people going for world records don't care about stability, but to me, it seems kinda pointless.

What do you guys think?
 
To be honest, as long as my machine does not act funny or reboot on me while gaming, benching, or on regular desktop use, I use it. As for stablity, I usually Prime for more then a day, or I Prime and loop 3dmark01 for a couple hours. That usually tells me if my overclock is stable or not. Also memtest is a good way to make sure your memory is stable. I use these 3 mainly to ensure stablity.
 
I'm the same way. I use my box mainly for gaming. (Who the hell likes to work :D ). As long as I don't crash back to the desktop, get random reboots, or the good old BSOD, I consider it stable.

I agree. My OC ain't stable unless Prime95 says no errors after about 10 hours.
 
If you're going for that record, who cares as long as it boots and runs a bit. If you want to use it....


Personally, if it won't Prime for at LEAST 24HRS and Memtest 24HRS then I back it off. Again, just personal preference. I bought it to do the math...if it don't it's no good :)
 
memtest to rough it in , and then lots of prime to prove it stable.

i think that as long as it makes a FULL pass of prime (ie. it goes up to 4 meg FFT size, then drops back to 1 meg) then a system is sufficiently stable for gaming and general use.

then again, i can most likely get my system up another 100 MHz if i don't worry about random crashes while typing up lab reports and research papers, and just concetrate on my gaming experience...............
