I've scoured the web, and while several articles allude to CPU price drops in September, there's no info conjecturing how much the prices will drop. I don't really anticipate huge changes in INTEL this year because of the lack of real competition from AMD, but I'd hate to buy a quad-core right before the prices drop anyway.

I've done the research and the math, and for a 64-bit Vista system, the quad-core seems to be the way to go, despite how attractive the E8400 price might be right now. Seems to me that the Q6600 is the bargain at only a couple more simoleans. (I'm more of a multi-tasker than a gamer, and not a big OC'er either, though I plan on a modest OC with a good air cooler. MB, cooler, ram, etc, has already been purchased. Just need the chip, and bang for the buck is the primary consideration.)

Anybody have a link? Anybody? Bueller?
 
just close your eyes and buy the Q6600, will will be satisfied..
 
I don't think anyone can say exactly how much it'll drop, but yes the price is already at a great bargain. Go for it.
 
They drop at midnight tonight(est), Intel will be liquidating all socket T chips. All CPUs will be available for $4.87(+ $1.50 shipping in the ConUS). :D

Really though... we might see another drop sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving. My best guess - cross your fingers
 
Hard to see the price on the Q6600 getting any lower than it already is - more likely it'll just get phased out as the 45nms drop into its price range.
 
Intel just dropped Wolfdale prices. I cant see them dropping again in September, but you never know!
