When do GeForce 6800 PCI-E's release?

This christmas I'm looking to upgrade my system. As the result of a new socket-type and PCI-E vs. AGP, i'm deciding to try and upgrade all those technologies at once.

Current:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
ABit NF7-S Rev. 2
VisionTek GeForce4 Ti4600

I *was* aiming for:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
ABit AN8 SLi
BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI-E

However I can't find a reliable release date for the 6800 (Ultra or not) PCI-E, I'm wondering even when the ABit board will release.

Anyone have an accurate estimate?

Also. What would be the better beter? Getting a PCI-E motherboard and getting the best (from what I've found that is PCI-E) card for it, a GeForce 6600 GT PCI-E.

Or, just getting some AGP-based board and getting the best AGP card for it, a GeForce 6800 Ultra AGP?

Looking to try and get the most bang here but kinda wanting to up it to a PCI-E board for the future.

Anyways, thanks for any suggestions.

If you want to upgrade your mobo anyway, definitely go for PCIe. I managed to get a PCIe eVGA 6800 Ultra from gameve back in October. No regrets at all. Prepare to pay upwards of $100 more than MSRP for one though. That includes the 6800GT in PCIe. They will supposedly have some more on the 15th of December and it is worth preordering one if you can. Also, sites like Newegg and Monarch should start seeing them around then as well. I'm glad I went PCI Express, because now when Nvidia and Intel release their board for the P4s in Q2 '05 I will be SLI ready! I doubt we'll see the prices on the vid cards come down anytime soon, though. Hey, for around $700 more for 2nd vid card and SLI mobo, I can expect my PC to be awesome well into the future. At least with AMD, you can keep you DDR1 RAM. Another approach you could also take is to go ahead and get a 6600GT from eVGA now and use the step-up program to upgrade to a 6800 Ultra from them when they become more available. Their site actually lists the 6800 GT and Ultra on their products listing for PCIe now, but say they are backordered. At least this way it would get you up and gaming NOW without any significant extra investment. Regardless of what many people are saying, AGP is well on its way out.
