Do dead pixels happen anytime in the lifetime of a lcd or just before you buy one? So If there are none when I get it am I safe or can the pixels stick after a couple of years?

The only time I've heard of dead pixels appearing during a screen's life is usually associated with some other sort of mishap (one of my friends' cars was struck by lighting, resulting in a few dead pixels, for instance). If they appear by themselves, chances are they can be massaged or exercised back to life, as well.

I dont beleive that dead pixels can come back to life but i've head that stuck pixels sometimes can if you massage it

o_O
Like rubbing the screen with ur finger?

Most dead pixels occur when the panel is fabricated but they can also show up later.

If you suddenly see a "dead pixel" try to reset the memory controller in the OSD if it's possible. It might help

If it's completely dead you cannot "rub" it back to life.

arrgh a dead or stuck pixel appeared on my Apple display, ive heard that flashing red/green/blue for many hours can loosen the pixels, ive tried masaging it but to no avail  goin to try the red/blue/green thingie wen i sleep :p

Good luck man! I keep checking my 2405 with a DPT (dead pixel tester program) every morning just to make sure while I still have the Dell 21 day satisfaction guarantee.

thanks man, left the program running for like 4 hours, nothing happened. But the weird thing is, its only noticeable up close to the monitor, and from weird angles. Im typing and where the stuck pixel is, i cant see it even though HardForums bkgrnd is black. I can see it like4 cms away from the screen though.

i think its not stuck but a dead pixel :( :(
it appears green-ish on black backgrounds and only appears slightly on other dark backgrounds (dark blue) why o why did the screwed up pixel disease have to happen to me :( PS: if its not dead but stuck, whats the correct "rubbing" technique? that sounded wrong on so many levels

LOL :D Pincho, Take a rag and (gently) massage the area around where the stuck pixel is. There's no guarantee that it's going to disappear but some people have had success with doing that. :)
