When are your temps the best?

Well when I first turn on my system, my CPU temps are at it's best. I get around 45 degrees. But later on when I leave it idle, the temps get hotter and hotter.

I was wondering, are your temps the same when you first power up to the temps when you leave it idle later on?

Your CPU temps are of course the coldest from start because if the comps been off and the CPU has time to reach room temp it'll take a moment to heat up. I leave my system on 24/7 though, so I rarely see this. By the time it's in to windows though it's warmed up quite a bit, CPU temps change rapidly.

How long has your system been idling before you say it reaches 45, and how high does it climb with time (I assume its still idling)? If it's gradually getting warmer it means your case isn't getting rid of the heat efficiently and its just building up in the case. Does your system temp also increase gradually?

Windows has just loaded and I run MBM5 right away. That is the time I see CPU temps around 45 degrees. And after and hour or so of staying idle, my CPU temps go up to about 55-60 degrees. The system temps stay the same. They are around 40 degrees all the time. The Power/AUX goes up though. Not as much as the CPU, but it still rises. What is that Power/AUX temperature? So starting up my system, my temps being lower is normal right?

So what should I do to help my temps?

P.S. you are from my neighboring city Lexington!

The Power/AUX is from a probe on the motherboard on a device that regulates power to the CPU if I remember correctly. (what kind of motherboard is this?)

I suspect your increasing temps are due to a heat buildup in your case... an idle of 55-60 is really high IMO, almost twice mine. How long does it take to build up to this temperature? It'll take a bit for the case to get up to temperature, but I find mine reaches a stable idle temp within 5 or 10 minutes of being in windows.

My CPU temps go up after about 10 minutes or so. My system is very much like yours...

-P4 2.8C not OCed
-IC7
-1 gig of XMS PC3200
-Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

My 2.8C is cooled by a ZALMAN CNPS7000A-AlCu along with some AS5.

Are my system temps of 40 degrees high also? Or is it only my CPU?

EDIT: Or could it be my IC7 reading high? Does yours do that? People say Abit boards read higher than usual...

I bought my IC7-G back in november, and I know its high, the temps it reports are not bad, but still high for what I have. With a 2.8Ghz oc'd to 3.08 I'm running at 34.5/35.5 idle right now (was just playing BF:V) and my system temp is 27C, PWM is 29C.

This is with an SP94 with a 92mm Panalo M fan. I know those are a bit warm because my friend has a similar setup on an Asus board and his temps are lower and he didn't do as good a job getting his heatsink set on as I did. My case has better airflow than his as well.

I'd check to make sure all fans are running and moving air through and that you don't have a spaghetti mess of wires obstructing your airflow. While abit boards to report higher than actual temperatures, they don't overreport that bad... your system temp shouldn't be 40C. Also, as far as I remember they only really overreport the CPU, the system and PWM temps are about right from what I understand.

Well my wires are pretty messy in the middle of the case. I will clean that up.

Can you give me an example of what system temps and what CPU temps I should be getting idle?

Not really. What's your room temp? whats your vid card? Does your fresh air come in over hard drives?

My room temp is 72F, my fresh air comes in over 2 hard drives and I have a 9800 pro 256mb card. And of course our exhaust configuration is probably different. Put your hand in your case, is it warm? That be a sign.

Not too sure on room temps. It is like 80 degrees outside and I have a fan in my room.

I have two intake fans. One takes air in freely while the otehr is taking air in over a harddrive. I have one exhaust fan. My video card is a 9800 pro 128mb. When putting my hand on the case, the only warm areas are where the power supply is located. All the rest feel normal.

just for schnitzels and giggles can you post a pic of the inside of your case?

LMAO..I'll try man...Let me try and get my bro's digicam...

my comp runs at 31 idle and 40-45 when playing ut2004 or heavy loading.

When you guys are mentioning your temps with no specification, do you mean system temps or CPU temps?

The case might be retaining too much heat , but if you take the side off the case and run the machine and are still get the creeping terrors ( I doubt the wires in your case (I checked teh pic ) are causing much airflow trouble for the cpu ) , the first thing I would check is to see if that heatsink fan combo you have is seated properly on the cpu.

Normally when I have creeping temperatures ( creeping up that is ) at idle it is almost always either a mating or mounting problem between the cpu and the heat sink which is keeping the two from making maximum surface area contact

also I think most of those guys are listing cpu temps , but remember the ambient (room) temp can be a bit misleading as a relative guideline as HUMIDITY makes ahuge impact on heat dissapation . For example a room with 14% humidity and 85F degrees offers about the same heat absorption /dissapation properties as an 75F degree room with 40% humidity

---------

also 45 is too high , *it seems* , what type of cpu are we talking about here and what is that cpu fan /heat sink you have ?

I will do that side of the case check thing.

So remounting the heatsink is my best bet? That is what I am worried about the most since they are the ones that rise up...

What about my system temps? Are they alright around 40?

Well looking a the specs of the cpu and teh heat sink I am not sure that remounting is your best bet . A review of the ZAlman here http://www.xtremetek.com/reviews/index.php?id=57&page=2 has an AMD 1.8 running at 40 C idle and 45C load , that 2.8C of your kicks out a LOT more heat than a 1.8AMD so your cpu numbers are actually not half bad , but the system temp ( at this point the circumstantial evidence suggest that it is probably accurate ) is too high , which strongly suggests that your box cannot get rid of it's massive amounts of heat .

Try that side trick ( and posssibly get a house fan and blow some air across the thing to maximize the airflow around the mobo ) then you'll kow which way you need to swing .

If you discover that the box is heat clogged you may be in for some modding if you want to bring those temperatures down .

CPU temp. -35c ....Gotta love the Mach II :D

every once in a while ill wake up at like 3am to get a drink or somethin and ill walk by my computer and see the temperature probes in the 20'sC. but also the thermostat kicks the temps down to 68F in my house at night

I would hope it would go down at night a bit, you's running watta!

I don't check mine in the middle of the night much, but with it being about 72F in my apartment with very low humidity (AC keeps it down)... my comp is probably settling in around 34C, with sys temps around 26C. It never gets too much lower because 26C is the temp my HDDs usually read under load and my fresh air intake blows right over em.

May I ask what case fans you are running and also how many?

Also what is your HS?

I have 5 fans in my case. Two 80mm Panaflo H fans sucking in from the front of the case. They don't whine but they make a wooshing air sound. I have a superquiet supersucky Antec case fan exhausting out the side door and two TT Smart Case Fan IIs as exhaust. The thermaltake fans are quiet 99% of the time, but will speed up when I game (thermal probes are on an empty part of my vid card that heats up pretty much only when I game). On my CPU is a 92mm Panaflo M fan.
