just curious if anyone knew when the 1600 bus was going to be available. I've been trying to wait for this to come out but I'm needing to upgrade sooner than later.

also, what is the next major release we are waiting for from intel?

I don't think Intel has ever indicated 1600 MHz FSB would be available for the desktop. It's penciled in as something for the Penryn-based Xeons.

Even if it were for the desktop, it'll be at least a year from now, given that new chipsets have just been introduced.

so right now can we get 1333 bus pretty easily on desktop chips? If not, what would be the downside to getting a xeon with this? I'm doing some things that are very performance sensitive for both graphics bandwidth and IO traffic so I need something that screams on the FSB. Any thoughts?

I run my E6320 at 1704MHz bus and it's rock stable at default voltages across the board.

At 1840MHz FSB, it's rock stable with the vcore at 1.375V..
