I've always preferred 3D screensavers and haven't had a look around lately. What screensavers are you guys using to show off your video card?
 
I use the clock one (3Dtext that shows the 3D animated clock) and I have the monitor turn off after 15 Minutes but the SS 10 Minutes
Vista was a sucky OS but had better Screen Savers then Windows 7
 
Just black, and the monitor turns off after 5 minutes. Electricity cost a fortune here in Denmark.
 
i use none.. i just have mine set to turn the monitors off after 10 minutes if idle time..

I have my pc in my living room for use as TV and use the clock screensaver as well, I keep falling asleep on my sofa watching TV and keep waking up in the middle of the night not knowing what time it is, getting old I guess :)
 
I don't see any reason why people would use a screensaver over just having the screen go into power saving mode after several minutes, but I guess it's cool to pretend like it's still the 80's sometimes.

What's your screensaver?
None. My monitors shutoff after so long.
 
My LCDs go dark after 10 minutes of inactivity except in December when I run Christmas screen savers.
 
Disappointing. Looks like there aren't as many 3D enthusiasts here as i thought.
 
My screensaver is the video card dropping signal, which signals the monitor to go to standby and turn off its display.

That is the only worthwhile kind of screensaver for an LCD. LCDs don't burn in like CRTs, and thus there is nothing to be gained from having a moving image on them. Static or changing, makes no difference. The only thing that makes a difference in their life is when the backlight goes out. As such you need to shut the screen down when not in use to preserve it.

As for one for show, there's no purpose. Basically by definition, the screensaver activates when I'm not around. As such I don't see it. If I want to show off my video card, I fire up something like the Heaven benchmark.

How often do film enthusiasts throw on a movie on before they leave a room?

Why would I care what my PC is doing when I'm not there?
 
I haven't used a screen saver in years... since 2004 when I got my first LCD monitor.
 
i set my LCD to turn off after 20 seconds of inactivity so i can be sure to squeeze every last second of useful life out of the back light
 
World Community Grid (BOINC client) is my Screen Saver
 
I think the PS3 visualizer with the Earth floating in space with loads of HDR looks pretty cool, but as far as I know isn't for PC...

I run it on a 50 inch lcd tv out at my business and my customers think it's a real aquarium from afar.

20 bucks for a screen saver? hell I didnt pay that much each for half of my video games. :eek:

yes I know theres a trail version but ... "It also automatically powers down your monitor after 10 minutes. The trial version also requires an auto-update every 2 weeks."...no thanks. lol
 
None. My monitor turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity. Electricity isn't cheap. :(
 
Don't use a screensaver. I don't have any inactivity timers, actually. It always tends to activate when I'm watching a movie or something, so I turn it off. If I'm going to leave, I hit the sleep button. S3 sleep ftw!

But it's only on my laptop, VAIO FW with HD4650.
Main rig monitor goes in to a sleep mode after 10 minutes.
 
screensavers are so 20th century.

i was hoping electric sheep would be a higher resolution. are some of them better than others in this area?

im only running in 1920x1080 and the first one that came up for me looked very soft and aliased.
 
No Screensaver, No Hibernate, No Turning off Hard Disks, No Downclocking CPU.

My computer is always either 0% or 100%

No in between. I spent too much money on my builds to let them run screensaver or go into some power saving garbage :)
 
None but to care about enviroment I have enable turn off after 3 hours idle for my display :D
 
Have not used a screen saver in years, it's not been necessary for quite awhile.
