edit: If you land in the "other" category, let us know what you're using if it's something interesting. Projector, HDTV, etc.

Most of the posts on here seem to be about LCDs lately, and Dell 2001fp and 2005fpw monitors seem to be getting a huge amount of attention. This just makes me wonder, what are you all using?

My setup:
Main screen: 24" HP A7217A (Sony GDM-FW900) wide flat CRT.
Side Screens: Sun-branded Sony GDM-20E20 20" and Hitachi CM715 19"

edit: There wasn't really enough room to have both the 2001fp and 2005fp on there, and I'm more curious about sizes.

sorry, could not resist.

anyways, my main screen is a 17"lcd when i am at college, and a 22" nec crt when i come home for weekends

17" CRT (viewsonic E70F). Its a great monitor, but too damn big (as in depth big ;) ). I need a LCD for my desk

i have a HP zd7000 notebook (in sig), so my main is a 17" wide LCD. then i have a Dell 1704FPV (also in sig) attached via VGA.

as soon as i sell my lappy im getting a new one w/ a 15.4" wide (1680x1050) and DVI out to the 1704FPV. heck, if i can, i may attack a third monitor via VGA just for kicks.

Fixed.

I had a 17" for years until I worked my way up the corporate ladder far enough to be able to afford a 21". Believe me, I know what that's like. My first rig I had for 4 years, then the next one about 3.5 years.
You'll get it eventually. Just make sure you get a decent screen that'll last a while before getting married and having kids. If you've already done that, make sure one of your kids grows up to be a geek and gets a good job so he can buy you toys for x-mas. I got my dad a 19" LCD for x-mas... mom would kill him if he bought that.

Mitsu 930SB here. I'm craving another LCD now that the 12ms ones have gone down in price.

Samsung 193P is my main screen. I also have a Mitsubishi 930SB CRT which I use for games only as the LCD is better for everything else.

two 17" LCDs

will probably replace them (and my 24" TV) with a single 23" or 24" LCD soon

Ever thought about building a track and a rolling platform on your desk so you can switch which one is directly in front of you? I was having this fantasy about 2 23-24" LCDs + my 24" CRT for games. I'd just roll the platform down the track until the CRT was in front of me when I wanted to play a game.
As an added bonus, I could use the CRT for playing movies and have it off to the side while I was doing something else on the LCDs.

Up until yesterday, my main screen was a Viewsonic GT775 17" CRT. It has now been replaced by a Samsung 193P (19" inch LCD).

id still probably keep the 2 17" LCDs and just replace the TV.

what kind of LCDs do you have?

Triple screen rules! Get a second vid card, hook the 17s up the the 2nd card, and put one on each side of the 23-24" LCD.

So far this has been interesting. The 17" LCDs being in the lead really doesn't suprise me considering the number of gamers on [H] and the easy access to fast response times in 17" panels. I am a bit suprised that the 20" LCD (20" 4:3 + 20" 16:10) crew is whipping the 19" crowd by over 2:1 and only one person has reported a 21-22" CRT so far.

If this poll would have been asked a few weeks ago, there would be 2 people! ;) :D

I take it you just switched from a 21-22" CRT to your 2001fp? I just moved from a 21" CRT to a 24" CRT, so a few weeks ago perhaps the 21-22" CRTs would have been keeping up with the 19" LCDs!

Got a 2005fpw for my main rig now. It replaced a 6 year old 17" CRT, so it was a substantial upgrade for me. Technically still have the CRT here for a dual-head second screen thing, but I mostly use the Dell.

I don't use my second screen very often anyway. Really only useful when copying info to another screen or watching a video while surfing.

I can't afford to keep both of these and get the new screen. I may try and find a cheap 15" and have it for those times when 2 displays are needed. Or use one of the CRTs in my garage.

Shouldn't be surprised when you consider:
1) a 19" LCD offers no increase in resolution compared to a 17"
2) all the deals and hooplah over the 2001fp / 2005fpw

I guess I just have a slightly warped view of the world being a professional programmer. Programming requires packing a whole lot of crap into short term memory on a regular basis. Having more screens is like having a better brain. WIth a 24" and 2 19" screens, I can have a program displaying on one of the side screens, 2 code windows on the main screen, and documentation on the other side screen. It's f'n sweet. Or I can do 3 code windows + docs, or 2 code windows and 2 docs, etc. 2 21" is almost as good... code or program output can generally fit on 1/2 of a 21". Docs usually don't though. Seems they're rigged for 1024x768 or so if in html format.
At any rate, I use my side screens a *ton*. If I'm coding it's as above. If I'm screwing around on the net usually I'll have AIM and Yahoo messenger on one, browsers on the main screen, and either more browser windows or TV on the other side screen.
I go berzerk if I have to use a single screen rig. Well, unless it has a 30" Apple Cinema Display.

No option for mine, Dell 1800FP 18" LCD.
I was actually thinking of 18.1" LCDs when I put the poll together. They'd have had a spot if I could have more options. I should have lumped them in with 17" or 19" I guess. OTOH, the "other" category is getting no love. Maybe you should just join the "other" category. That's where all the truly 'leet [H]'ers hang out anyway. 23-24" LCDs and CRTs are nice, but the truly [H]ard build thier own projectors, etc.

hey, good idea on start a thread about this. :) I should have thought about this myself... don't know why I didn't....

anyways, I currently have a 19"CRT monitor [flat screen at least] :) It's working fine, but I think I might get myself a 17" or possibly a 19" LCD in March.... if not, April. :)

My personal suggestion is build a rolling platform on rails on your desk. That way you can have an LCD and a CRT hooked up. For most stuff the LCD is in front of you and the CRT is off to the side, then for games you slide the whole mess over and the CRT is in front of you.My personal dream is to have 2 23-24" LCDs, then on one end of the setup this 24" CRT. All of it goes on a rolling platform, so I can have the LCD in the middle or my big CRT in front of me.

2 17" CRTs.

Having only a single display is like having only half a brain, as zandor pointed out :) it's unbelievable how much space a software/website developer needs. Even a single 30" display would be less efficient than my current setup.

Still rocking my about 4 year old 19" CRT from Dell. Good color, good available resolutions, good refresh rates. It has all the space I want so I've never really felt motivated to buy an LCD. For college I'll switch of course because of space concerns but until this monitor dies it will be put to good use.

right now I'm looking at a 17" KDS flat screen CRT... in about 3 days, I will be looking at my new Nu-Tech L921G 19" LCD monitor. :D

Same here, so I guess "Other"
I should have tossed 18" LCDs in with 17" or 19". Same with 21" LCDs and 20" LCDs. Polls top out at 10 options, so I had to drop a few options.

My "main" display is my projector (110" screen). I have an FPW2005 on order for the HTPC control screen. I also have a dual-jointed pneumatic lcd arm coming that will mount the Dell to the coffee table and allow for sweeping it away when viewing a movie on the projector as well as pulling it up to my tater location on the couch.

Damn. And I thought the old 386 I had hooked up to my Linux box back in college (serial connextion, just used it as a terminal) was the life. Nice setup.

I use an old 19" CRT HP Pavilion monitor from 2000. The only trouble is that a power cable is loose in it and if I shake the desk too hard, the monitor goes off. Then I have to move the screen around to get it back on. It is a pain in the rear, but i cannot currently afford a new 20" LCD like I want.

Might be a bad cable. What happens if you jiggle the cable? One of the guys at work has a bad cable on his monitor. While he's waiting for his LCD to show up we ghrtto rigged it by putting a cork board under it to hold it up since the signal goes bad if it's hanging from the back of the screen.
Is it a captive cable? If not you might try borrowing one for a few minutes and buying a new one if it fixes the problem. A cable is way cheaper than a monitor. Then when you get your 20" LCD you can run the 19" as a second screen like you're supposed to. :D

The cable is permanently attached, so I can't take it out. Oh well, I gotta get a job sometime here; the only problem is that i can't drive yet and am currently at school. I guess I wait on the 20" LCD.
