I was just curious what other 980 owners ASIC quality is (in GPUZ) across Model vs OC & thought it would be easier to list here apart from the benchmark thread. Mine are listed below with the model and stable core OC. I cant speak as to the accuracy of the ASIC, just what I can see from the tool.


ASIC Quality 67.6% and 68.9%
EVGA reference 980 at launch x 2
+200 OC stable with stock volts
 
My Asus Strix GTX980 comes up at 77.6% ASIC quality. I haven't tried overclocking it yet.
 
68.1% on 970, +200 core and +400 VRAM at stock voltage (MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G)
 
Asic is at 67.6%.
EVGA SC acx 2.0 980 (under water).
My 24/7 oc is 1522 boost and 8ghz on the memory at stock volts, power target at 124%. I have not pushed it any further, don't need to tbh.

My EVGA GTX 980 OC both boost to 1342MHz and memory at 1753

#1: 71.9%
#2: 70.0%

No further overclock but thought you may like the info.

Voltage discrepancy bug kind of hampers extreme overclocking, but 24/7 OC is 1524 boost/7800 mem without touching voltage.
 
My STRIX 980 is 70% and I've got 1504/7900 no voltage added 24/7. Pleased.

I agree. I can be stable for hours on end for endless looping benchmarks and gaming, then sudden crashes every 10 mins doing the same thing!
 
75.1% and 60%. I was a little concerned with the low ASIC on the second card as that's the lowest I've ever had personally on any GPU, but they both overclock like champs without any extra voltage.

66%. Doesn't seem to like to OC much (well past the stock OC) at least in AC4. IT would OC, but the game would crash after an hour of play or so. Haven't tried any more OC since I've been playing games that don't at all need it.

Sadly those running SLI still get shafted, as DA_SHIT found out. Or maybe this is unique quirk of Gigabyte 970s because of the dual BIOS.

Either way, I'm not flashing anything until nVidia fixes the GODDAMN FUCKING DRIVERS. Holy fucking shit between the SLI voltage bug and SLI scaling issues it's almost as if nVidia is trying to become AMD. :eek:

I don't blame you man. The 900 series and SLI has been a big issue and so far a let down. My good buddy who I coaxed into upgrading his 670 2gb SLI system to 970 SLI is having the same issues as everyone else. He also has a ROG Swift so he is having issues there with the drivers and DSR and Gsync, etc.

It makes me look like a douchebag for telling him to upgrade and all these issues pop up -- not even counting the boost problems with the MSI and G1 gaming when overclocked past 1550 core ( that I believe I linked to you specifically in another thread, maybe?).

Nvidia better get their shit together, quick.

I sincerely hope that its not an unfix-able hardware bug. Bollocks bollocks bollocks. I've had more trouble in the first month with these cards than I had the whole 2.5 yrs I had my 680s =/

I don't think it is the video card causing that problem, you get hard locked when CPU or Memory is overclocked too much, or not enough volts.

try to downclock and see if it still does that.

ASIC quality is meaningless. It has no bearing on how good a card is and how well it will overclock.

I will eventually get to flashing my card and seeing what the limit is. Even at stock (1392 boost for this card), it basically eats up every game I throw at it.

That was my first thought too, but ruled it out after the screen went blank first as the driver crashed and reverted to the desktop. Opening the control panel was the last straw. Usually when it fails, the driver usually recovers or the monitors shutdown while the game & system audio plays normally in the background - in the end it doesn't recover and a hard boot is required. Doesn't do it if I disable SLI and works well using either card individually.

I thought it may have to do with my ASIC quality, but it doesn't seem so - max boost with settings is not too far, 1463 at peak and levels to 1450 constant.

I am not sure it means anything really. Some people say the lower the ASIC score the more voltage you need. I never found a correlation between and ASIC and voltage with any of the cards I have used. Both my 780Lightning and my 970 have/had low ASIC and they are both the best overclocking cards I have owned.

It has no significance at all. Its more like a batch number than anything else. Its a number assigned to the chip by Nvidia and AMD, GPU-Z just reads this number. Nobody knows exactly how this number calculated, but we do know that AMD and Nvidia use different ways to arrive at this number. Not only that, but its varys between different GPU models by the same manufacturer.

You'll see an example of the difference and what it effects if people start listing what their stock boost rating is and what their actual in game boost value is at stock, then if you compare over a large sample size (for the same line) with a larger delta between ASIC scores. You'll also notice a correlation between operating vcore at load as well.

Depending on circumstances (and limiting factors) it'll affect the boost difference with overclocking as well. But by itself it isn't an actual indicator of absolute overclocking numbers.

Afaik it is an arbitrary number based on various tests done at whatever factory builds the chips. Only they know what it really means but it doesn't translate to better overclocking or anything.

I had a GTX770 with 89% ASIC quality that I had to RMA due to faulty fans. Got back a card with 79% ASIC quality and neither of these cards perform any different compared to my other GTX770 with 76.6% ASIC quality.

I found the biggest improvement in overclocking I got by getting a better PSU (from 525W to 750W - this was before running SLI). So if you feel your card isn't overclocking well and doesn't seem to be overheating, try a higher quality power supply.

Are you still getting that SLI voltage issue? I know my higher ASIC card is using a lower voltage in SLI, individually and in either primary or secondary position but crashes are still random, despite being stable for a long time =/. I dunno, maybe ill just revert to stock and let it be.

I fixed the voltage discrepancy issue with a bios flash on both of my cards. They both run steady at 1.275V now. I don't even need afterburner except to run a custom fan profile. Eventually I'll add that to the bios too.

Yes they are solid now, no SLI stuttering no more crashes, both cards can run 1515mhz core 8000mhz vram at 1.275v. They only throttle slightly in Benchmarks and uber stress tests e.g. Heaven and furmark. I'm finally experiencing my cards the way I should have from day 1.

Yes, but the voltage doesn't make the cards run that much hotter believe it or not. In other words I don't need to run the fans at 100% or anything crazy like that. But an extra 10% speed at each temp interval will suffice.
