I do most of my shopping at rbcomputing but I have shopped at tiger direct once before and the service wasn't bad or anything but I have heard a lot of people post that they should be avoided, why is this?

Because a few people have had problems with them. Primarily with just RMA's. Sometimes its even their own fault for not reading the agreement carefully enough and so they blame Tiger Direct. I'm sure there are those that have had past issues with Tiger Direct but i've ordered there, quick delivery, no problems and i know alot of others that have had the same luck with them. Once rumors get started about a site being bad it spreads like wildfire.

They have an 8.03 six month rating on ResellerRatings so obviously not everyone has a problem.

My 1800FP is from TigerDirect. I've order a few things from them in the last 5 years...always been fine.

I buy from them from time to time. My problem with them is that like on the memory, they don't list the timings, so you really don't know what it is.

There was a "how are these guys" thread stickyed some time back, and I seem to recall the good / bad ratio was like 10:1....

I have no personal experience with them, so I can't offer any concrete experiences. I buy 99% of the stuff I need from the guys at the top of the page.....

I've only ordered one thing from there, and it took like two weeks to ship it out. Ridiculous! There prices are comparable to othersites, but Newegg just has the best service. :)

They did me wrong once (which was all it took) plus were charging people for some phone thing awhile back that they hadn't consented to. Those two factors, not to mention the unprofessional customer service I received have induced me to never go to their website, receive their emails or catalog again.
I don't care if they are a totally different organization now, which I highly doubt, I will not do business with them again.

I have the Egg and as long as they have what I want in stock that's the only place I need. :D

Hey, if you're in the GTA, pop into their outlet if you don't want to pay for shipping. I trust brick and mortar stores more, you get to see who you're buying from, plus, you can freak out at them if there's problems with an RMA. Stores hate customers who make scenes :D

i heard that TD staff put in positive feedback to boost up their ratings

Nothing wrong with them, I just find cheaper prices and faster shipping from Mwave, Newegg, and ZipZoomFly.

They sell a lot of gimmicky stuff, but then again, so does everyone else. The last time I bought from them was a full SEVEN years ago, and the experience was pretty positive. I still receive catalogs from them monthly.

I have bought from TigerDirect without any probs. In the past 5 years I have only had to RMA three items. All were from Newegg. Newegg has best RMA turnaround time.

They are the only company I have ever dealt with that has screwed up every order I ever made. In between sending me the wrong stuff, double billing, charging for stuff I didn't order, and sending orders to the wrong person(to name a few problems), I decided there were better companies to deal with. And I was a lot more patient with them then I normally am.

My one bad experience was my last due to the severity of it.

Basically, i ordered a GeForce4 TTI4600 (back when they were about $500 for a system I was selling....keep in mind I'm on a deadline..

Well, I asked for 2-day shipment, and I was assured it would ship the next day....well 4 days later it left their shop...and when i got it, it was DOA....RMA rep cliamed it would take about 4 days for my replacement to arrive (ground ship)..WTF!?!?

Well, I finally got the replacement....it was DOA too...so I called again, and they are sending another....

By this time I had 3 days to my commitment, so off to fry's I go and pick up the same card....

Later that week I tried to get my money back on the card, since i didn't have a need for it anymore...my god that was a massive pain...

Well in the end I EBayed the card (tiger was rather adamant on not refunding me, and I decided to just give up on pursuiing it further), and the customer got his system, with a GF4 TI4600 i got from the local Fry's.....so much for Tiger...

ive had good service. but their on sale items have always came though fucked up. wrong items before. overcharging. needed rma. i will buy only full price things from them. but newegg owns them, in the normal price category. newegg should be your first option.

I always use Pricegrabber or Pricewatch to find the cheapest prices on something before i decide who to order from. I saw that TigerDirect has the Belkin 1200VA's for a mere $99 so i will probably order something like that from them.

I've had great experience and great prices from them.
Free shipping on my orders and good service (you have to call them).

Reseller ratings: read them.

My experience has been 70/30 good to bad, but the bad were SO bad that I won't buy there any more.

1. Bought a tape drive. Advertized as refurb, all accessories, fully working. Did NOT come with the controller card that it was supposed to, and you could NOT buy the card separate, period. Was not available. Drive was useless. When I called, they told me that it came with everything that it needed to work. Iomega told me that they were lying through their teeth. Tiger refused to take it back, even though they advertized it as having a full warranty.
2. Return shipping: You pay BOTH ways, Regiestered Return Reciept ($$$$).
3. Service: Bought a video card. Took me THREE hours on the phone, to get service on it and help.
4. Rebates. They DO NOT actually honor them, 8/10 times. They just get "lost" and never get processed. Right...

After that, I buy Newegg now. TD == Asking for trouble.
