We used to used an old box that we would intentionally misconfigure via hardware jumpers and then a jacked Windows install to test new hires.
We would know when we had a good tech when they would fix the issues and find stuff that was wrong that NOONE else had noticed.
 
So many applicants knew all about making pictures and creating websites but didn't know crap about basic tech stuff.
Was kinda sad and yet confusing.
 
Realistically, someone can be phenomenal at building websites and have no idea about the inner workings of a computer.

I understand that. But trying to pass yourself off as a tech for a job is, um, ridiculous.
