Whats wrong with my power supply unit?

This morning, i woke up to start my computer but nothing powered up. I checked the switches on the psu to find that no power was going to my motherboard. I opened the computer up and realised that the psu would make this weired sound like its on its last leg when i turn it on& off. I tried chainging the cable but still nothin, there was no lights on in the motherboard but the fans did move a little and i mean a little.

Its a hiper type r 580watt, what could be the problem and do u think i shud get a new one?

Look like a dead PSU to me at first sight. Well you should get a new one if you want to use your PC again =)

yeah it does sound like the psu has grown wings and departed to another realm

I tried again and switched it on from the back, and now the noise is unberable and you have to turn it off straight away, its a really high pitched sound and when you turn it off it sound just like when a planes engines when landing but really high pitched. I hope i can rma this.
