• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

why was I not allowed to use gmail, yahoo, etc when I registered here? It's the email I use every day and its pretty annoying to have to check my other email address that I never use now

Because it's a free email. Read the rules when registering. It tells you that you cannot register using a "free" email account.

I know that, I can read. I'm asking WHY can you not use a free email account

Because spammers generally sign up with free email accounts. Having to use your ISP (or whatever else) email ensures that you are a real person, not a spam bot.

Since that rule was implemented, I have noticed a total lack of spammers on this board, so it is clearly working in our favor.

ya I have noticed that there isn't all that much spam here. however, it would be nice if you could at least change your email address to gmail after you have been confirmed with your ISP's email address.

In Gmail, if you go to Settings > Get mail from other accounts:, you can retrieve email from your ISP email. That way, you can still use Gmail.

yea I've done that, but then two labels get applied to every message. one telling me that the message is from my isp account and the other to tell me its from [h]. i guess im just a little ocd about it ;) thats really the only problem i have with the whole thing

Yes, it's to stop spammers that use freebie emails. There is no provision in vBull to allow users to switch accounts to a banned provider after a period of time or certain # of posts have been reached.

If you use something like Thunderbird for email, you can collect from various accounts at once. I believe you can download gmail to Thunderbird as well. You might want to give it a try.
