Alright, I just put together my comp:

2.8C
IS7
1 Gig Corsair (Value) =( 3200
R9600P
120gig
80Gig
antec 400W

Everything is set up properly, I belive, didnt forget to hook something on teh PSU etc.

I boot, and hard drives spin, makes normal boot noises, but I keep either "Check Signal Cable" (No, my vid card IS plugged in). I fixed that, and now nothing shows up on my monitor. theres nothing. It sounds like its booting, but I see nothing.

Someone plz offer me some insight. thx

Is your power indicator on the monitor lit green or yellow? Yellow means it's still in standby or sleepy-time mode, usually meaning no video signal to the monitor. Do a double-swap with the video card from your other machine.

Run through the normal gamut of troubleshooting (ho hum)

1) Check all connections
2) Swap parts to find a bad one
3) Rebuild the machine after stripping it down
4) Strip to bare minimum and try to boot

I figured out the problem. Turns out the processor wasnt seated properly before pulling down the lever, and in simplest terms, bye bye 2 Pins, and bye bye P4 2.8C.

Will Newegg RMA it? How much will it cost me. I am so screwed. HELP!

Dude- Omg someone tell me its going to be allright. seriously, Im 'kin freaking out. I have no $$$, literally NONE. I make 50 bucks per week, and If I have to pay full price to get a new one.. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.

You make $50 a week and yet your making careless mistakes on expensive computer parts that you can't afford? Dude...you should of bought a "refurbished" Dell (or HP).

Im 15, and I saved $$ for a WHILE for this baby. It appeared to be seated properly, pulled down the lever, bye bye pins. As i mentioned before

I would have thought that was kind of hard to do, considering it falls into place, but I stand corrected. Did they pins break off? If so, your probably screwed. If they are bent, carefully take an eyeglass screwdriver and bend them back.

Might I suggest saving your money for a car instead? Chicks like cars better than PCs.

Pins broken off, or just bent? If bent, straighten. If broken, get creative. I wouldn't even try to RMA the thing for warranty if I knew that I broke it myself.

the pins are BROKEN off 2 of them. I still have the individual pins, what CReative thing can i do with them, such as duct taping them back together to make it work.

and I plan on saving for the car after the PC upgrade.

will Newgg have sympathy for me?

:D they're nice but they don't give out donations. next time be careful! ask for a cash advance in your allowance;)

I work in a record store, cant take an advance. I work saturdays, no other hours open. I know New Egg wont give out donations, but will they charge me full price for my error? or will it be like 50 bucks.

If I was a mom and pop shop and you brought that CPU back and I inspected it, you would not get warranty. It's gonna be pretty obvious what happened, I would suspect. Whether or not they catch it is another matter. Will they have sympathy and warranty it after they notice that the pins were broken off during an incorrect installation? No. Will they warranty it because they didn't inspect it close enough? Probably. Will you feel right after successfully pulling one over on them? That's up to you to decide.

At this point it's a moral dilemma and you're of the age where you need to decide what's the right thing to do, given the knowledge of how it became broken. Sorry I can't offer any advice on how to make the thing work. :(

I sent in an RMA - stating, broke off 2 pins during installation on IS7. I want to be honest, and since it's my bad, I have to face teh music I guess.

do i have any hopes of reviving my beauty?

you know, all these people preach good, but you'll never know if these people practice what they preach.
RMA that thing. I fried a mobo because i missed one riser and it grounded out on the case. IT fried the mobo, the psu, the memory, the cpu and the video card. I paid for it all, and i still to this day kick myself for not RMAing it. I needed that money for something important, but spent it on essentially 2 computers.

If they take it back and refund you, then fine, if they wont then you'll have to pay for it. But atleast freakin try.

Alright, thanks for all your help, Im going to sleep on it, and regain my senses etc etc. If anyone could offer some support or help on what I can do now that my 2.8C is down 2 pins, (which I have saved).

Thanks all

why not try seating it in there all the way this time. maybe it wasnt working because it wasnt seated all the way. Maybe those 2 pins are worthless.

A lot of people make this mistake of not seating the cpu right. I think people get a bit too excited with their purchase and rush to intalling .. kinda sucks. Everyone screws up atleast once or twice.. I know I have over the past 12 years :/
