Ok here is my issue.

I had an e4500 installed in my MSI Diamond 6N with 4GB and a BFG 8600GTO. I dont play games just use it as an HTPC. It ran anything I tried and had no issues.

I decided to upgrade the processor to an e8300 because I got a great deal on it. Now it seems as though the pc is struggling to complete multiple tasks. And dont even try to play an 1080 file.

The temps are super low, max is around 30c.

Any thoughts

Do you still have the e4500. You could try swapping it back.

Open task manager, go to the processes tab, click on the CPU column, and see if any one process is eating up excessive processing power. Also check your available physical memory under the performance tab. Make sure both processors are active in the performance tab while you are there too.

You can grab a benchmarking program like Sandra and make sure the new processor is up to snuff.

Uhhmmmm, grap CPU ID and make sure it is running at the proper speed settings, multipliers and voltages.

Try resetting the bios settings back to the default settings. Check to make sure you have the latest bios for your MOBO.

Possible problems are BIOS settings, old system-level processor drivers (shouldn't be an issue, same motherboard and core2 -> core2 upgrade), or temperatures.

I'm curious how you're achieving those amazing temperatures, is this watercooled? Or are those BIOS temperatures, which don't tell you that much? Or maybe I'm just sad that here in Texas my ambient is 31C :(

I live in FL so it's hot here as well. All air cooled. I am using a Gemini II with two 80 fans.


Nothing out of the ordinary in processes. All of them low until start running apps. I have a ton of available memory left.

I have the latest bios.

i am running sandra now and will see what it says
 
I had a problem almost identical to this, it was that my thermal paste had not cured yet. I underestimated how long AS5 takes to cure. I'm back to my Zalmann stuff now, I like it more.

What thermal paste did you use?
 
Well, he reported temps in the 30's, so even without paste, it wouldn't get hot enough to throttle the CPU. I'm going to assume you are running at stock speed, specially with those temps. Are the temps at idle, or under some kind of load.

When you try running a 1080 movie, is the CPU pegging?

Run CPU ID and see what speed it is running at. Sounds like the FSB or multiplier are out of whack. Are both CPU's running?

I reset my cmos reloaded latest bios and all is well. Thanks for all the ideas.
