Okay. Here's what happend:
1. 40GB, 120GB, HDDs, and a brand new 250GB HDD are installed into 75Mhz computer w/ 128MBs of ram running Win2kServer on the 40GB drive (SP1 i believe).
2. ran scandisk on the 250GB HDD. (it ran "successfully", so i don't know if there were any problems to fix or not)
2. Began backing up the 100 or so gigabytes spread between the 40GB and 120GB HDDs onto the 250GB HDD. Takes forever becasue of slow proscessor.
3. before i went to bed last night, i copied over the last folder (size = 40GB) from the 120GB drive onto the 250GB drive.
4. when i checked the computer this morning, the 250GB HDD shows that it's got 102GB of used space, and 130GB of free space, which sounds right. however...
5. if i open the 250GB drive, select all, and then right click for properties, the computer wants to tell me that i've only got 5.29GB of data for "All in E:\"
only a few folders work, and to save us both time, i'll explain this a little better if anyone needs this information...
i get the following message for the folders that don't work: "E:\xxx\My Freakin' Folder\* is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
the server has been on for a few days now, and i've still got it on. the drives are shared on the network, but when i try to connect to the drives there's a problem:
Error message when connecting to server from Apple OS 10.3:
"the Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://NIK" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).
i know the eternet connecton works fine, because i'm using a VNC client to operate the server...
i don't have my paper receipt from newegg, so there's no way that i know of to return the new 250GB HDD, if that's what the problem is....
and suggestions, questions, or comments would be very very very much appreciated, because i don't want to use my data heavily without a working backup.
