What's with Nvidia and drivers?

I had been using ATI cards for a while (9700Pro 9800Pro,) and I picked up a 6800 GT OC right when they came out. There have been no driver updates since 61.77 (official ones anyway.) When I used to run NV cards before my ATI phase there were updates all the time. Most things work pretty well with the current drivers, but there is always room for improvement, and I have a few things that don't work so well. Any clue when some new official drivers will surface?
 
My bad, they are unofficial, but hey they are WHQL certified
 
The 19th? Didn't 66.81 drivers come out two weeks ago, I know I've had it for that long. The hell, it says 66.81, thats what I have, but from two weeks ago, whats the difference? I'm confused.

What do these drivers have that the ones from two weeks ago (same version 66.81) don't have?
 
I do not think that the ones from 2 weeks ago were WHQL certified, while these are....

they need to have more "official" driver releases. There are often 3-4 WHQL'd drivers between Official releases.

I dont know why all WHQL's arent Official?

Maybe, Official drivers go through a more vigorous internal testing, besides Microsoft's WHQL testing procedure?
 
So 66.81 is now WHQL, which means they were tested and pass or does WHQL mean something was added to 66.81.

Because if 66.81 is the same as the one two weeks ago, I'm not gonna waste my time cleaning out my drives to reinstall the same exact ones.

All WHQL means is that M$ has given those drivers their blessing and there is a tag in the driver that will stop Windows from bitching about these drivers not being WHQL certified. There's nothing different in these than there are in the other ones.

Doesn't really make much sense to go throught the WHQL process for unofficial releases...
 
I'd rather see more frequent 'official' driver releases from NV. Most users will use whatever is on the NV site so they're stuck with the slow-ass 61.77 drivers. Would it kill NV to put the 66.81 drivers up for download on their site to benefit the users out there?

I wouldn't say that :p Most gamers already know about the beta drivers at nzone.com :p I know Nvidia release beta drivers on a daily basis when I was using my old GeForce :p
