My friend was just telling me about virtualization and dual bootin, he didn't really know what he was talking about and neither do I. I have an e6400 and what does the virtualization function do?

Virtualization enhanced by Intel Virtualization Technology will allow a platform to run multiple operating systems and applications in independent partitions. With virtualization, one computer system can function as multiple “virtual” systems. With processor and I/O enhancements to Intel’s various platforms, Intel Virtualization Technology can improve the performance and robustness of today’s software-only virtual machine solutions.

In theory you could run Linux and windozes at the same time. In practice its nothing a normal user needs to concern themselves with at this time. Disable it in the bios.

Download a copy of Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1, install a Windows virtual box with virtualization turned off and then install one with it turned on. You'll see the benefits immediately. As of right now, there's not a whole lot of apps that are using, but once Vista's released you should see it being used a lot more.

so if you're not doing dual os's then it's best to disable, right?

what if I am dual booting to two seperate partitions. Is this virtualization? That is what I am currently doing

Are you able to run two operating systems concurrently? If you answered "no" or "wtf is he talking about" to this question you are not utilizing the virtualization extensions of your processor.

You need virtual server or VMware to take advantage of virtualiztion right now, vPro can take advantage of it as well, but you'll only see it in a corporate environment.
