So I finally got windows installed on this computer:
Athlon 64 3800+ (stock heatsink)
Gigabyte nForce3 Ultra
1gb Corsair XMS RAM (with the lights)
36 gig WD Raptor, and 160 gig WD SATA HD (both hooked up to the Silicon Image ports on the mobo)
9600 Pro (until the 6800GT comes in)
After many headaches, Windows seems to be working fine. (Had to put the HDs on the Silicon Image ports and use their drivers, as the nVidia SATA ports didn't work out.)
Everything is at stock settings (except for the RAM - I added 1 clock cycle to the RAS to CAS as per a recommendation on a Newegg review).
Here's the problem: Prime 95 fails in about 10 seconds after starting the torture test. It doesn't even complete the first iteration. I ran Memtest86, and the ram passed perfectly, no errors at all. Doom 3 also crashed about 30 seconds into the first level.
So what's the problem? Could the CPU be overheating? It is on the stock heatsink. I have absolutely no idea what temp it's running at though, as the BIOS is reporting 15C. Could the PSU (Enermax whisper) be giving the CPU too much power? It goes anywhere from about 1.55v - 1.60v vcore. It definitely isn't lacking in power, as last time I started Prime95, the vcore jumped up in voltage!
Suggestions, please!
