What's the next best option outside of Utorrent?

I've been using Utorrent for years and I really do like it. In comparison to the stuff I was using before it was far more lightweight and pretty easy to use.

Even after bitorrent bought it and cloned it to make it their official client I didn't mind. But this invasive utorrent toolbar install is seriously pissing me off, they pretty much do it without asking for permission (as I always tell them no when I update it), and it might be time to switch. So, anything better out there?

Toolbar? Just don't install that when you install the program? I take it that you're objecting to it being there in the first place and being the default option though.

    Anyway, you talking about windows?

I thought I had made it pretty clear in my first post that I TRIED that, I did not agree to any toolbar installation, but it still does it, and that pisses me off. I am objecting it to being there in the first place, however it seems to get installed whether one likes it or not, and it's incredibly stupid.

Tixati? Is that new? Never heard of it. Do you use it? I assume then it is also a streamlined light and easy to use torrent prog? I may have to check it out.

HUGE endorsement for Tixati from me, I've tried almost every client and Tixati is best IMO. Simple, elegant, streamlined, low resource use, no fluff-just the way I like my torrent clients.

I've used both. Qbtorrent has an integrated search engine and RSS feed for finding torrents-these are features that I personally have no need for. It's a good client but I like Tixati much better. It really boils down to personal preference-I would download both and give them a shot.

Ok....so was there anything Tixati had that Qbtorrent didn't? I mean, aside from Qbtorrent having features you wouldn't use, why did you end up choosing Tixati?

Yeah, just use an older version and disable auto updating.

Weird, it just asked me to update a day or two ago and I did, it asked me to install the crap you mention and I was able to opt-out. Did you use the update via the client or did you download a new version?

Not really, I asked what it has over the other, and I have to imagine qbtorrent has those things as well or it would not have been recommended in the first place.

They both do the job. Pick the interface you prefer.
    qBittorrent looks identical to uTorrent.
Tixati has it's own look, and he said "simple, elegant, streamlined" which describes Tixati's interface fairly well.

What feature(s) exactly are you looking for?

I'm on an older version with auto-updates disabled. This is one reason I hate having software auto-update itself, they end up pulling something like this. I feel it's useful to have more control over the software installed on my computer, rather than letting it run wild behind the scenes.

I also like simple, compact, straight to the point software that has a few functions related to the primary goal of the software, rather than trying to be the end all be all with tons of features. Looks like I'll be using Tixati soon, thanks for the tip.

I'm with Qbittorrent but I'm planning to try Tixati and possibly switch over. It's been 1 year since I used it and they still haven't put a disable auto update option. I'm tired firing the client every 2-3 weeks to find there is new update and if I click No, I will be constantly asked the same question every time until I update. They never reply to emails either and from what I heard are also pretty ignorant to other suggestions.

You know I actually went back to Shadow's Experimental Bittornado because I love the GUI

Unfortunately it shows how far the torrents have come along and I can not get full speed, nor can I select things like UTP for those times when my ISP is blocking traffic. The last update was in 2006 I believe. Had to uninstall unfortunately and stick to 'list' type of interface GUI. If somebody else knows anything similar to bittornado I will give it a try. If not, maybe I will switch to Tixati after I give it a speed run.

Maybe it has something to do from where you download utorrent and also what download options you choose, some websites are putting its own crap inside installation packages or offering toolbar instalation before downloading.

I am also using older version, no need for shiny upgraded 3.xx utorrent with rating stars, content playing and other visual and functional sh#$ I will never use and torrents will NOT download faster with newer utorent versions :) so why upgrade unless some serious security risk is found in the latest 2.xx version or something like that.

Deluge has been my go-to torrent client on both Windows and Linux for over a year now. Stable, lots of features, and highly configurable without any bloat.

    Seriously, try it.

This kinda makes me sad. Utorrent used to be the 'alternative' to the crapware. Now it is the crapware.

I dunno, I have been trying qbittorent on my mac and I....rather dislike it. I mean, I can't even get it to delete the file AND the torrent at the same time (which can become a big problem when you have a lot of active seeds for a while). It makes me want to just go right back to utorrent.

I suppose I could move on and try another, but damn, I hate this process. And sometimes ripping out an integrated program like that in favor of another (as per active torrents running) can be problematic.

This sucks, but I may just have to switch back to utorrent again since this qbitorrent experiment isn't working out so good.
