To have a case fan next to your case with the side off...I dont have a full size case fan, Its just a smaller round one...i have it myave 8 inches away from the open case...is that far enough away? This is just a temporary solution untill I get my debit card to order a water cool kit. Thanks!

I think he is asking about a 120v fan, not a case fan..
I have actually had a small 120V fan in my case, and I have seen people use box fans as the side of their case, so I don't think computers are too affected by the small magnetic feild that a 120V fan generates.

The effect of magnetic fields on actual computer hardware has always been highly exaggerated - backed up by people who took ferrites near their CRTs.
That's right, it's unlikely that anything will be affected. If your comoputer bluescreens, it may be interfering with hard drive data transfer. In that case, move fan away and reboot.

It'll cause you no problems at all. You can stick a regular table-top fan right next to your computer with the grill off so close that it scrapes against your parts.
Just with a CRT monitor nearby, you'll get crazy shaking.
