I need to copy a music CD but my computer only has one optical drive, the CD burner.

Thanks in advance.

1)Place CD that you want to copyin CD-RW

2)Copy an image of the CD to the Harddrive

3)burn the image to a blank CD-R after you remove the first CD.

All can be done with a burning program, such as nero.

Optical drives are cheap, buy more!

Yeah, images are good though. Handy to keep around for discs you burn a lot too. I have friends who have huge libraries of em.

I always burn my CD's only using the one drive, it's more accurate than doing it "On the Fly"
Depends on how it's "buffered." Even if it's doing one track at a time reading, then burning it's still faster than using one drive and the quality is the same. And for most things when I really need a quick copy a direct on the fly copy isn't going to hurt accuracy enough to be a problem. I copy music CDs that way all the time for example to use in the car.

Yer depends on what your doing, For general data and audio it's OK but if your backing up CD's with copy protections that need to be read perfectly (twin peaks and what not) then you gotta make images.
