Ok so my dads building a new pc and im helping him out, but since i am a gamer and dont need hyper-threading i went with amd when i built my pc a few months ago and havent really been paying too much attention to intel cpu's. So my question is whats the difference between p4 530j and p4 2.8E between the obvious socket difference and the speed. Since he will basically be doing a lot of video capturing and dvd burning and stuff that intel and its hyper-threading is great for, and the fact that he hates amd and will absolutely not get an amd even if it was given to him, hes gonna get a intel.

Please no thread crapping or fan-boys i just want to know whats the difference, thx for the help. :D
 
The 'J' model have the No eXecute (aka Execute Disable, aka Data Exectuion Prevention) flag availible. It's meant to protect against a virus or other mallicious little app trying to execute code from a data segment (this is how most buffer overflows are exploited to run unwanted code on machine).


They might be different steppings, the 530J is garaunteed to be an E0 , the 2.8E could potentially be anything, but fairly likely by now it's not an early stepping. The later steppings generally run a bit cooler.
