Whats the difference between a sata HD and a regular HD ?

I'm looking to build the BEST system i can for around $ 700

What are some of the pro's and con's ?

SATA drives use a cable much smaller and slimmer than an IDE connector. Most people would argue that the differences between them aren't that significant. SATA drives require more work to install, as you usually have to install drivers before Windows can detect the drive. One isn't really better than the other.

Theoretically, the SATA drives are faster with burst speeds upto 150Mb/s while IDE (regular) HDs have a burst speed of 100Mb/s. Whichever you go with, make sure it has an 8Mb cache.

What i've seen is sata drives have a little faster seek time but unless your running raid don't bother with it ide is fine and usually cheaper

I have not noticed any difference...I am thinking raptors in my future..
