Ok I see copper heatsinks for $11 with a fan, and i see some for $55. If it's copper what's the difference?

Might seem like a stupid question but i'm just curious.

There's a lot more to a heatsink than the material it's made out of. How thin the fins are, how the fins are joined to the base, how well the base itself is made, including recesses for the fins, how good the mounting hardware is, how good the included fan(if any) is.

The more money the maker spends on any of those areas, the better the heatsink performs.

That said, there are $20 heatsinks that outperform $50 heatsinks. Get the model # and manufacturer and do some good old research.

thanks for the info, don't think i ever would've considered how thick the fins were, etc :)

Don't forget the design of the fins. I have a Dr. Thermal all aluminum heatsink that has an interesting design, it moves quite a bit of heat. Not as much as my SLK 800U, of course, but that's another story. :p

This is why you don't just buy a hunk of copper and stick it on a CPU. :p
