My Google-fu hasn't come up with an answer, so I try my luck here:

Can anyone tell me the difference between these two ram modules?

Kingston KVR1333D3D4R9S/8GHB
Kingston KVR1333D3D4R9S/8G

I can't figure out what the HB in the first partnumber stands for, other than the spec-sheet linked above says "DRAM Supported: Hynix B-Die". Unfortunally that still doesn't tell me much.

I also wonder if I can mix the two ram modules in the same machine? The 8GHB-module is what's currently installed, but the price is higher and it is discontinued as a product from Kingston.

Wattage is different. You can mix the two just fine, one is just more power efficient than the other. The timings, speed and voltage are the same so you should be fine.
