Whats the difference between these 2 bundles?

The second link is WD's "SecureConnect" cable. When you use it, it uses the SATA power connector to more securely hold the SATA data cable in place, requiring you to use a Molex to power the drive. This makes hot-plug a definite no-no, but does make it extremely unlikely that the cable will come loose. Did SATA cables come with your mobo? If so, I'd just buy the bare drive and be done with it.

Hmmm.... so if i use the secure-connect cable, i need a different kind of power connector??

And why would it be cheaper than the generic one?

I havn't bought the mobo yet. I'm buying the retail package here. But i was thinking that I might get the one with the standard cable anyway. a bare OEM Raptor74 is $175, so i think 5 bucks is a pretty good price, just in case i ever decide to get another (different) OEM drive in the future (...??)

edit: is sata cables coming lose really a common problem??

DougLite: My mobo and front panel I/O unit came with red Sata cables.
Do you think spending $8 on each Secure connect cable from WD is a good idea?
I won't be moving my computer at all, unless i move out of my current house and have to move the computer.

I want a good flow of data coming and going from my Raptor and my WD Caviar SE16.
I don't know if i should invest the $16 for their cables. The blue secure connect cable's connector is alot bigger than a normal Sata connector. This will make routing the cable harder in select places inside your case. Maybe not haha

SATA drives often have two power connectors on them, a SATA one for hotswap capabilites and a molex like normal IDE drives do. Only hook up ONE of these, you can damage the drive if you connect both.

No SATA cables do not come loose by themselfs, but they are easier to bump off than a IDE cable, so if you are often digging around in your case, be sure you check it after each time, or get the "secure connect" so that it is latched onto the drive.
