whats the difference between led's and cc's?

this is in regard to a fan, i was looking at xoxide and they have both led-lighted fans and cold cathode-lighted fans. i was wondering, is there any practical difference? are the cold cathodes brighter than the led's, or is there something else that would justify the extra $ spent on a cold cathode fan vs a led fan?
 
CC's--> BAD, uses invertors which are IMO a fire hazard (especially the cheap ones that come with or used with CC's), no way would I leave a CC unattended.

Go for LED strips, they last longer, lower power, less heat and dont degrade in brightness over time allthough they are more expensive.
