whats the diff?

'bout 14 mm^2.....

thortons have, physically, 512k of L2, but 1/2 is diabled (Barton cores with the cache cut)
tbred only has 256k of phyical L2 cache.

applebread (even though you didn't ask) is a Tbred with only 64k of L2 enabled, but 256k physically present. those are the 1.6 adn 1.8ghz durons.

so basicly a bigger die with part of it dead because they wanted to keep it unbartoned...thats kinda stupid...i think i'm going to stick with the Thoroughbred....unless if the thorton runs a whole lot cooler (5C or more) than a regular 2400+

it more to do with the fact, the die is disabled due to it failing. Its one of the less quality ones on the die, so they diable half the suspect cache, sell it on as a Duron and whamoo.. some lucky people have been able to turn it back on with stable results. so a $40 chip turns into a $90!
