lcd monitor? i ask b/c it seems like these non-tn panels that are 1920x1200 all float around the $500 price point if not more. it seems like that same dollar figure would buy a nice mobo and a nice proc for the same price. for some reason it seems like the price should have come down by now for these non-tn larger resolution displays.

there's some talk about lcd tv prices and how they have gone down recently. was expecting to see some monitor price drops.

The panel will probably be a large part of the cost.

As for why bigger LCD monitors are still expensive, it's a much smaller market than HDTV's. Many homes now have a plasma or LCD, whereas those same homes will probably have a small 17 or 19" monitor that came with their dell/hp/acer/emachines etc.
