what's the best PVR software?

well, that's probably one of the bigger setbacks to myth... First its on linux which is extremly well suited to the application of a HTPC but its not very user friendly. Second myth is a multi step setup processes which can make things rather difficult to somone new. Lastly Myth depends on other software to run such as Mysql, which is a tottally diffrent setup. All that being said with some guided help i'm sure anyone tech savy can get a myth box together with little problem. knoppmyth will setup all this for you.
 
wow, i tried the nielm STV this weekend. spent several hours tweaking it and now my HTPC is just awesome. i didn't like nielm's menu structure so i changed it with some xml editing. i also added burning CDs/DVDs through nero into, sage launches max payne (yes i still play it- i don't game much), and i made a few other adjustments. nielm has already added most everything (7\) mentioned is in mythtv. i love the weather reports and radar maps.

yeah, frankly i'm not sure if all the menu stuff was in XML files before (i don't think it was though), and i never tried customizing sage before loading this STV. i'm glad i tried it though because it added some functionality which was kind of cool. but then i also saw that i could totally adjust the menus by editing the menu.xml file so although there are a few limitations i can do almost anything i want with sage now.

in fact i'm pretty much done for now with it. it opens nero for me and games and the weather thing is awesome- i customized it to display all the cities i want. aside from doing low-level driver stuff or something i've got sage either doing or launching another program that'll do anything i want my htpc to do. so i never have to go to the desktop again.
