1. 2x WinXP Pro and Visual Studio .NET for free (Microsoft student-only conference)
2. MAG Innovision 15" LCD FP monitor (in 2001) for $229.00 (Black Friday)
3. ~$1600.00 Dell Inspiron 700M for $900.00 (actually got to use the *original* 750 off a 1500+ Dell)
4. Rosewill x800xl PCI-e, $217 shipped (NewEgg refurb)

Tons of blank CDs for free AR when they were "expensive". 100 Taiyo Yuden DVDRs for $20.00. One large deal from OfficeMax that involved 200 pack of CDRs, 256MB ram chip, and a 52x LiteOn CD burner. After coupons and rebates I ended up paying like 30 bux for all of it when the burner alone was worth $100+.

Buy.com used to give out $10.00 off coupons, with either no minimum spend, or the minimum spend as $10.00. Got a bunch of free DVDs shipped free after those coupons.

Ahh the good times.

Then I couldnt resist ordering the monitor up again with this 100.00 coupon using my no interest until 2007 Dell Preferred account!!! Heres a copy and paste of how it broke down. I seem to be lucky with good deals, dunno why...(knocks on wood)

Dell D600 for $250, got one two years ago
40GB 3rd Gen Ipod $200, when 3rd gens were still new
9800 Pro w/ r360 for $65, about a month ago
HTPC rig in sig for $100, but has a memory problem
Dell 2001FP for $325, about four months ago

I bought a carrying case for my JVC camcorder at Fry's for $1.90. It was on clearance. That's probably the best deal I've ever had.

got a case of paper from kmart for like 4 bucks in 2003. the cashier didnt know she had to scan each pack. i still got two reams of that paper left.

my speakers, JBL S312II i got them for 300 shipped (came motor coach) and they were brand new. they retailed for like 800 or 900 a piece when i bought them

$318 for:

Dell PowerEdge 600sc
Intel 2.4B/533
128MB ECC Registered RAM
2x120GB Western Digital 8MB Cache
(The motherboard has 3 IDE Channels, but no AGP but that's ok, it's a SERVER! it shouldn't have AGP)

Original price was $518 but the snafu'ed my first shipment with non 8mb cache drives and promised me they were 8MB cache so they gave me a $200 credit and sent me those listed above!

I wish I'd bought more of them, and all my friends do too!

How do you get all these freebies? Do you work for a hardware review site? or do you win these?

The case and PSU were review samples, the rest were either won or donated.

i won a cnet auction for a digital camcorder which sold for around $850 at the time,
my auction bid was $150 and i won it. but the sellers were trying to back out of the deal (i bid on two camcorders) so i did some bitching/threatening about auction rules (it was supposed to be a reserved price auction and they messed up) so they ended up agreeing to sell me one camcorder only for $150

About a year and a half back, Dell had a 200GB Western Digital HDD (8mb Cache, 7200rpm, etc) for $120 after a $100 rebate. It got very interesting when someone pointed out that they actually released two $100 rebates, depending on what kind of customer you were. Upon closer inspection, one could see that while they were obviously not made for this purpose, they could use both rebates together. Dell threw a fit made it quite clear that they were perfectly justified in only honoring one of these rebates (which they were), but later agreed to honor both of them anyway. I had to wait about three weeks for all this to get sorted out, but I ended up with said hard drive for just over $20.

Props to Dell for putting customers over profits.

I got in on this same deal.

Eh, can't, cause then Dell would probably catch on...which I think they already have. Plus, the method isn't foolproof...just tried to use it on a video card deal and it didn't go through. I'll probably give it one more go tomorrow morning, and if it doesn't work, I'll have to cancel my order and wait for another deal.

1. best buy $400 free stuff
2. 800.com 3 dvd's for $1

#1 - this was back in 2000. http://slashdot.org/articles/00/01/07/0827226.shtml. No one really had cell phones, so I only got a hold of my dad using a payphone. We got $800 worth of stuff combined - Diamond Rio 500, Panasonic 27", and a few small things. Stood in line for 4 hours, but well worth it for a college student at the time.

#2 - this was when 800.com first opened for business, like circa 1998 - http://www.smr-archive.com/forum_5/messages/781.shtml. DVD's were expensive back then, and this was their way of advertising. We got in for 4 deals, so 12 dvd's for $4.

And although not a deal, remember AllAdvantage? Get paid to surf - well actually we just ran a macro to make it look like we were. Did it for everyone in the household and got like $100/month for doing nothing. My roommate at the time actually got like $1k/month because he was high up in the pyramid scheme. Those were good days. I haven't kept up with the deals much lately.
