im just starting to buy all the components for my new system and i need some suggestions and clarifications on what kind of ram to buy. a few days ago i purchased 1GB of corsair xms3200 pro seriers ram and since then ive read a few forums that have made me think twice about my purchase. does this ram have lots of potential for overclocking and if not, some suggestions on what type of ram to buy would be awsome. Whats with all this TCCD ram talk? Also, im looking for a mainboard that is stable and will overclock well to go with my amd 4400. so far my sights are set on either a DFI nF4 SLI-DR or an ASUS A8N SLI Premium. Suggestions on a mainboard would be great too!

Well if you plan to OC [H]ardcore then there's TCCD, the leaders are gskill LE and LA (LE hits 310ish depening on luck, LA can hits 330+). I prefer LE due to the fact it can do 300 with tighter timings than LA (which compensates for the 20mhz less in speed compared to LA). Theres always UTT (BH5 and OCZ VX) if you like pumping volts but I don't think you have the experience to be tweaking those.

Bottom line: get some Gskill LE, its best overclocking ram IMO.
 
ok, here's the super secret deadly combination (though sadly memory overclocks don't do a ton for performance, they are still cool):

DFI NF4 (take your pick of flavors) This is the best 939 board, it offers the most features, the best overclocking, tons of voltage options, and is very well supported. The level of innovation on this board will surprise you.

RAM: Twinmos SP PC-3200 2x512mb. This stuff is BH-5 or CH-5, and will overclock very well with high vdimms that the DFI provides. Mine does 271 1.5-2-2-0 with 3.55v, or 240 with 3.41v. Your current RAM is TCCD I believe, and it probably cost you more than ~$100 shipped, if you can sell it without hassle, switching to the twinmos would likely yield better overall performance, and put some extra money in your pocket.
 
thanks for the suggestions guys. I just put my order in a few minutes ago for the DFI NF4 SLI-DR. hopefully it'll be here soon. As far as the RAM goes, i dont need the absolute best, i just wanna know if the ram i bought will be enough to take my amd 4400 to 4800 speeds while keeping the 1:1 memory ratio.

heh, get some LE and it'll HIT 4800 speed (300) with cas 2.5. If you dont wanna change multi you can do 240 at 2-2-2-5.

you are aware that dividers don't change performance, only frequency?
IE: 400HTT with 1:2 divider equals 200mhz
200HTT with 1:1 divider equals 200mhz, both these speeds will have the exact same performance. Your ram should be able to do what you want, but if it won't, dividers are your friend.
 
Mushkin Redlines HP3200 are $146 for a gig at Monarch. My friend has them and are running them at 276 MHz at 2.5-3-3-8 timings at 3.3V.
