Hey guys,

So I just got my Crossover 404K setup with my old Dell 3011 now running portrait on the side. I don't have any 4K content so went to YouTube and started watching some 4k stuff from there and ... I'm floored.

It's like looking out a window. I can put my face up to the screen and no pixels (well at best as my old eyeballs can detect at any rate).

My question to you guys, though, is like the title says, what do you guys think will be next? I remember when I got my first HD screen (720p and then 1080p) and was blown away. Now with 4K UHD becoming more widespread, how much higher can screen resolutions go?

Unless they invent cyber-eyes to go along with them, I'm not sure I'll even be able to detect anything higher than 4K.

8K has always been on the horizon, the BBC have had screens for some time.
4K will be more than enough for most though so 8K will have very slow uptake.
There are already some intermediate resolutions available.

Using 8 simultaneous HDMI 2.0 connections lol.

That's what I was thinking. I don't think the ports out now can go much higher - video bandwidth-wise. IIRC 4K60 is already choking current connections and that is without running HDCP 2.2 - which would add even more overhead.

Next I guess is HDR and wider colour gamuts for movies and eventually games, native 10-bit processing for more variance in shades etc..
Quantum dot and similar technologies should help bring down the prices, then sRGB will go the way of the dodo.
Higher refresh rates will become the new standard and I guess affordable OLED monitors will finally arrive within the next 4 years.
I see 5k+ resolutions gaining importance for work/design related tasks but multimedia content will settle on 4k for the forseeable future.
Also going to be interesting how VR tech is going to turn out.
