What's killing my PSU's?

I have lost two good Antec PSU's in the same workstation in the last three months and I am starting to think something is fishy.

I moved into a new house in July (it's a bit of an older house in Minneapolis) and lost an Antec Neo 480w psu after about 3 weeks. It just up and died one time when I shut down the computer. I went to turn it back on and nothing, dead. So I was not too concerned, even great PSU's can be faulty, and picked up a new Antec 500w TPII. Now it has died in the exact same manner and I am on my third PSU in as many months.

Is my new (old) house giving out crappy cycles? Every other appliance seems to be ok, and the other 4 computers I have running are rock solid. So I am just not sure whats going on. Anyone have any ideas for me to explore?

A UPS won't cure the crappy caps being used in the TPII line. Replacing it with a better PSU will cure all your ills. Getting a UPS to fix that issue is just a case of throwing good money after bad, unfortunately.

Unless you live in an oven, it takes about a year or two for the cap problem to appear, so it may be a wiring problem.

Electrician & APC UPS are both good options.

Good Luck,
Dave ;)

Since it's in a workstation and most shops build workstations with barely adequate cooling it wouldn't surprise me to see that the PSU is running at 40*C or above.
