whats holding e4300 back??

After an all day fiasco with UPS to get my freaking newegg package, I finally have all the parts together. I am really dissapointed in the performance so far. Keep in mind this is my first intel rig so I bet/am hoping its something I am doing wrong.

my set up
e4300
gigabyte ds3
2x1 gig G Skill ddr2 800 F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ
evga 8800gts
650w antec trio

So far it won't even boot into 310x6. I am guessing thats telling me the memory is the problem?

settings

clock ration 6x
system memory multiplier 2.00
tried 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15 (what is odd is that cpu z is telling me the memory is 5-5-5-15 when its being sold as 4-4-4-12)
core is at 1.42
ram is +.02

any tips/stuff to try? Is this memory a bad match for the board or chip? Is there anything you would recommend over it at newegg for a similar price(295)?

First of all, why the heck is your multiplayer at 6x? The 4300 runs at 9x!

Turn that sucker up to 9x and you got a beast.
 
yeah I tried 9x at first and wouldnt boot at 250. I was looking through the tomshardware and anandtechs review on the e4300 and they said they started at 6x to see how high the memory would go. Was really hoping for 3ghz :(

If anyone thinks its the ram let me know. Iam looking for reviews to see if there is anything better on newegg for the price. Sucks cause I read a lot of people saying the 4300 would rip with ok 667 memory. I buy 300 dollar 800 and its a pile lol...

You might have gotten a bad stick, which means all you got to do is RMA it. I have the same ram, except its the 1st revison and its got a mild overclock on it.
It may not be compatible with your motherboard. It is good ram however.

You said ram is +.02 and I dont know what that means. But what you wanna do is put your memory to 2.1v. You also want to check your Vcore. I dont know what stock is for a e4300.
You can also try one stick of RAM.

All I can think of right now, its possible your ram, cpu, or mobo may be bad.

EDIT: Try 200MHZ on the FSB. The e4300 is a 200MHZ or 800MHZ QDR FSB cpu.
Have you looked at Gigabytes site for supported Ram? I did a quick look, while I found nothing stating G Skill, they do list Micron, so based on my understanding your RAM is supported.
 
+.02 volts on the memory sticks. Iam just about finished updating windows and I'll try your suggestions.

The G.SKill HZ need 2.2 Volts to run right. The DS3 Starts up at boot with 1.8 volts. So in the bios up the DDR voltage to +.4 ok. The ran MemTest to check the ram. Also what Bios are you running

New egg says 2.0-2.1v unless im looking at different ram. I got my ram at 2.1v.

Ya dont listen to CPU-Z lol. The ram isnt telling the correct info. The ram will work fine at 4-4-4-12. Assuming its working and not defective.

Try taking out a stick of ram. Then switch them. Hopefully its just 1 bad stick not both.
 
freaking thing keeps rebooting while I am just sitting in bios at default settings now. I was looking at the PC Health Status window and noticed ddr18v said fail in red letters. I take it this isn't such a great thing. Anyone have a clue what it means. Also whats with the pc just turning off while I am in bios.

I am going to take a stick out and see whats up

Intel guarantees the CPU to run at 1.8Ghz. If it runs that fast, then don't complain. Remember that all these sites saying they could get their CPU up to xxx mhz are individual results and your results may vary. Good luck!
 
People are jumping on this E4300 because it is new but it remains to be seen if it is a good overclocker. That chip was only designed to run at 800 FSB that is a big difference from 1066 FSB. In other words your CPU clock on the chip is rated for 200 not 266. To run it at even speed with PC6400 memory requires doubling the clock speed to 400 MHz.

The jury is still out on that one. People think they are going to achieve E6600 performance level for the price of an E6300, but they're not. Throw a high multiplier on a slow bus doesn't mean the same thing at all.

The big advantage seems to be you can buy slow memory for it and cheaper motherboards that only need to run 800FSB
 
well there had to be something shorting out in the case before. Kept turning on and off like mad so I took it all apart and rebuilt it. Runs fine now. I can get 3.4-3.5 on 1.5vcore, but have been running at 3.2 at 1.4125.

Thats alot of juice man......i can run my e6600 at 3.2 with only 1.18 volts. I would amagine your temps are pretty high. Im at 3.4 for the time being untill my as5 cures alittle and im giving my processor 1.27 volts. My temps are 31idle and 47 load. So many people think they have to raise the voltage as if it were a old pentium 4 or a athlon 64...lol. Little steps people. I try and see how far i can go at the lowest voltage and step it up by the next setting and so forth. You end up hurting your overclock with too high of voltages due to high heat. A ton of people set there processor at 1.35 at stock!! Im gonna set my processor to 3.73 and i will most likely not have to go that high. But, there are some people that dont have the best chips in the world and legitimitly need all that voltage, so to them this doesnt apply, but they are few and far between. So far i have changed about 12 peoples voltages down from 1.4-1.5 to 1.3 on the average and was able to keep there original over clocks. Try it people, i know what im talking about.

oh after playing cs for over an hour temps on coretemp were around 39-41..right now it says 29. Stock hs for now. I am going to see what the local computer shop has in an hour or so.

edit #2 lowered to 1.38 and just ran 32m super pi. Gonna run memtest for awhile then try and lower it another couple notches

1.18v, is that BIOS, or Cpu-z? Also how stable is that.

Ran orthos. Memtest is good but I think its more for testing memory not overclock stability.

Your voltage and overclock are fine.
1.4125 - vdroop = 1.3725 probably, which is only +.05v from "stock"

3.2Ghz is a nice clock to be at. You may want to try it at 400x8 so your ram is at ddr2 800 speeds!
