Why is it when ever I play Counter-strike 1.6 on my friends computer (old sony vio p4 2.2ghz, radeon 9600 256mb) It always looks soooo much better then my 2.4ghz, 6800gt oc? I don't know what it is but looks like I wasted alot of money for a card that I shoulda only wasted 80dollars on and bought a 9600...

It seems like everything just looks better on his comp, Headshots are nicer, graphics better, just runs so much smoother..

I have 71.84 Beta drivers.
 
CS:S is optimized for ATi cards. That's pretty much the reason. Same goes for Half-Life 2, and any other Source based game you can think of.

did you even look at the settings.. if your running at anything lower than 1024 by 768 its going to look crappy.. make sure its running Direct 3d mode, 32 bit depth color, and set the ansiotrophic and antialiasing to 2x AA / 2x AF

btw im running 73.00 beta drivers

Are you running dx version 9 in the game? check in video settings
 
I use 800 x 600 and OpenGL in the game.. Same settings my friend uses. His still looks better then mine. I tryed D3D and its horrible can't even make out what its saying on the screen looks so choppy.

Or does it have to do with cause I have a Abit BH7 motherboard which only supports 4x ... But my 6800GT is 8x?

Why in the world would you play CS 1.6 on 800x600 with a 6800 gt? Just crank up the resolution. Also, what about other games? How can CS 1.6 be pretty??? Don't tell me you bought your 6800 GT to play CS 1.6...

He's talking about CS 1.6, not CS:S... and even if it was CS:S, the 6800 GT should rip apart the 9600
 
tweak ur settings.

u said ur videocard is 8x... but ur motherboard is 4x...

that means that ur only gonna run in 4x mode...if so get a new motherboard...


see if u have AA/AF on... that would make a difference
u have a BFG 68GT and i know u should have no problem playing at 10x7... u should have no problem playing at 16x12...

You think it will look alot nicer on my new..

bump up the res.... 800x600 is awful
 
I know the res is awful but easier to aim and get heads off. Plus thats how i've always been playing its great cause the crosshair is so small for better aim. But you think when I get my new comp it will look nicer.

Cause only running at 4x its(the 6800gt) is only doing half of what it can really do correct? So it should look a hell of a lot nicer with my new MSI k8n rite?

And preformance wise, I don't know any game that uses the 4xAGP speed 100%?

What are your settings and what are his settings...and are you/him using a crt/lcd?
 
Dude, you are never gonna get CS1.6 to look nice, installing a new card will not make anything look nicer, and CS will always look like arse. But, if you insist on running 800x600, then at least go into your driver control panel, find the counterstrike panel in the performance tab, and turn Ansiotropic Filtering and antialiasing right the way up to max. Oh, and do yourself a favour and buy Source.

Definitely buy HL2. CS:Source is a miracle in comparison to the original CS.
 
Nah, lotta people didnt move to source. Im sticking with 1.6 till the people move on to source, like leagues and things etc.

Well then, turn all your settings to max. If you monitor supports 1280 X 1024 @ 75Hz or more then use 1280 X 1024 otherwise use 1024 X 768 and turn all options to MAX. Use DX 9 too.

Dude, i went p4 2.0 -> athlon 64 3200+ and old shit mobo (i845) to nforce3 with the same gfx. I had about 30 fps average, now i have like 80 average!! i think you should see a good improvement. Do a complete format and install latest drivers off your products websites, and use dx9, its just beautiful!

How do I get DX9 to enable it or sumthing in my cs video tab? Also its a LCD so yeah.. I know CRT's look better but im broke so really can't buy cause I just bought a whole new comp.
