What's going on with Socket 2011?

I believe the rumors are after haswell lga1150 there will be an ivy bridge CPU for lga2011.
 
Yeah, I'm pokin around. Some rumors have the chips supporting up to 12 cores, others say it will stay at 6. The big thing being 40 lanes to support PCI 3.0 'officially', but there certainly doesn't seem to be a whole LOT of information out there...
 
Only thing I've read so far is this:
  • LGA 1150 Haswell released sometime next year.
  • LGA 2011 Ivy Bridge-E released in 2013
  • "Socket R3" Haswell (rumored) to be released after IVB-E 2011. (It will NOT be compatible with current socket 2011 boards for SB-E/IVB-E)
Ivy Bridge-E if going by the posts here and other places may go up to 10 cores max.

Haswell-E, or known as Grantley-E, because it is more energy efficient than either SB-E or IVB-E may actually hit 14 cores max. An eight core Haswell-E may actually be as energy efficient as an SB 2600/IVB 3770. Just imagine a $300 eight core processor with Hyperthreading as the lowest model of Haswell-E.

Haswell-E is supposedly called Grantley-E. Rumored features are 40 lane PCI-E 3.0, maximum DDR3 2133 RAM speeds, and up to 35MB of L3 cache (2.5MB per core). And, it's going to use a new socket called "Socket R3", replacing Socket 2011.

DDR4 support will remain with Haswell-EX server processors. Official DDR4 support for desktops, non-server processors will not be available until Broadwell's successor, Skylake, in 2015. Desktop, non-server, processors will still use DDR3 until then-- both Haswell and Broadwell.

From what I've read:

Server CPUs (Xeons) will get up to 12 cores. There's already 10-core 2011 Xeons on the market based on SB-E. Consumer CPUs (the i7s with overclocking capabilities) will stay at 6 cores.

2011 Haswell-E will not be compatible due to the integrated VRMs, which expect 12v from the socket, not the 1.xx volt supplied by the VRMs on the motherboard. Haswell-E will also utilize DDR4. IB-E will be out around the middle of 2013, with Haswell-E in 2014.

It is the new new. It is a badass socket and it will be here for atleast 3 more current tech years.

Ivy E will come out but the socket will still be 2011. Even 1366 server parts are still extremely viable and highly configurable and very powerful even today there are 1366 high end chips that will give the mid range of 2011's a run for the money. So 2011 will be here for quite some time.

Unless you have full justifiable need for 6 cores and 40 lanes there is NO need to stray away from 1155.

Well that too hah. I didnt mention that but that is completely valid reason alone to have socket 2011 if you dont want to use any other feature just having mass amounts of ram is a good one too.

Yup, as a Photoshop user there is no such thing as having too much RAM. I'd take a 16 RAM socket board if I could get one! :)
