....Buying one large SATA hard drive (ie 200Gb) or buying 2 smaller SATA hard drives at half the capacity (ie 120 Gb each) for about 60% of the price of the larger drive and raiding them together?
 
well raid 1 you only get the size of one drive.... RAID 0 you get 2x the likelyhood of having a drive fail and all your data being gone..

dont even mess with RAID unless you go RAID5 with 3 or more drives..

JMO

get the one drive and backup need files on an external or and Ipod or a CD/DVDs
 
You could get the two drives and JBOD them. You get the full space with none of the risks of RAID 0 ;)
