Whats the codename for the next intel 22nm sandybridge? Just got a sandy bridge laptop and no idea why but i am already ready for the next refresh.:D

The next gen architecture after SB/IB is Haswell, due at the end of 2012.

Ivy Bridge for LGA 1155 is due late this year/early next year. The speed of core and shrink releases are almost coming too fast. Tick-Tock.

I wish I had the Mobility HD 5730 in my XPS 16. :(

2012!!!

Jk. It is coming a bit fast though to be honest, makes me second guess getting an i5 2500K if IB is a decent amount better.

Sandy, Ivy, then the world will end Dec of 2012 so you will never see anything smaller than 28nm

sandy vagina. Oh wait, that's existed here on the boards for years. :D

It will not be true if AMD can still compete in 2013. Hopefully they have plans for accelerating their 22nm process being that they will be 17 months behind at 32nm when bulldozer becomes a product.

Consider that AMD not only has to move to 22nm at a greatly accelerated pace, but also that GF is dropping SOI at 22nm and AMD needs to move its architecture to bulk silicon. The gap is not going to narrow IMO.

I think expecting 2013 for AMD to release 22nm chips is very optimistic. Even the second gen BD architecture is being built on 32nm, probably because GF's 28nm process is for bulk silicon, not SOI.

An outlook of sunshine and rainbows just isn't realistic.

don't worry if they fail samsung will buy them they'll have a huge r&d budget and you can be looking forward to the first Radeon Daimondhead Gpu with a remote

You think Samsung would buy them? I would think IBM is a lot more likely

ibm they look a great bet but then you have to go dig between years of papers agreements and who made a bed with who. IBM had a licence which stated whatever they receive from intel they the blue print with it and are allowed to change anything on it as they please. They still do have it hence them making such lovely super computers and cpus. Which is actually stuff from intel they tweaked and renamed. They can do it. So there must be a clauses holding everything together and other agreement which keeps ibm from not trying to compete with intel.
Now the rumour in the Finance world is if Amd had to sell Samsung will be the front runner as they want to put they're foot into the cpu business as well. And they have the Funds to buy another company.
Remember Amd only survived so far thanks to Intel who let them mob the lower end of the market by not releasing direct competition for the Amd cpus pricing wise. Intel took the 300 and above and didn't worry with the market below it. That's where Amd did awesomely what I think which gave them still a income. People also forget Amd paid I think 5 billion cash for ATI. 5billion cash can drain anyone's resources. And they still had a r&d to hold up as well as not letting Intel run away. If intel released cpus that were competing in the low end market directly with Amd that 5billion wouldve backfired

I hope Samsung doesn't buy AMD. Samsung's track record doesn't seem very innovative nor creative. Instead, they play the safe route by mimicking other companies' ideas and squelch the competition with sheer volume.

Nokia are getting worried the rate Intel going they're heading for the smartphone sector
