What's the difference between a Double Precision Multiplier and the x86 Double Precision?

I've been doing some reading about Cell processors and unfortunately, i'm not technically inclined enough to understand most of it. Might as well ask here since i haven't had much luck with google :(

This is just taken from my Intel x86 knowledge, but the precision is basically how many decimal places it could hold. On the x86, double precision means it's going to use two registers to hold the number, thus offerring DOUBLE the precision of a number that only uses 1 register to hold the number. That may be the same for the cell processor.
