What's a Nice Basic Video Card?

A friend has a Dell computer he bought with no graphics card but a pci 16x slot. He doesn't game, but wants support for multiple monitors. Video lags sometimes with his current lack-of-card setup. I'm guessing he could get by with a $50 card, but money isn't really an issue if there's some cool bell-and-whistle thingiemabob he can get (remote control, washes dishes?).

Any advice? Thanks in advance.
 
Multiple of what type of monitor? If he doesn't game then the trick is more finding a bargin card with dual outputs, and outputs to the connectors that work best with his monitors, than anything else. Not all low-end cards have dual outputs.

Another consideration is if he want to watch HD video or anything like that as some cards have the ability to use the video card's processor to help out with decoding the video to play it.
 
He has a 20" lcd now, but may add a second monitor when has the capability. His current monitor runs at 1600X1200 if I recall correctly.
 
i picked up a 7600GS for my new system as I was coming from AGP and I rarely ever game, but it was $59.99 after MIR at circuit city. Its got VGA and DVI and definitley is a nice card for the price. Also I seen at zzf they have a 8500GT for like $79.99 and theres a $10MIR bringing it down to $69.99 which doesnt sound like a bad deal especially since it has DX10.
