What's a free proxy server to use?

Yep, I use Squid on my server at home without a problem. Only thing is you have to run it on your own equipment.
 
If you want something reliable, running your own is best bet. Ensure you set a password or some other type of security so not just anyone can use it.

You can also google "proxies" or something to that extent and find some, but it's hit and miss. There's web based ones too but those are not as good as real proxies (ones you set in the browser).
