...im looking to get a tv card for my new shuttle (the SB75G2).

I got a 9800Pro but didnt want the AIW brand cuz ive heard mixed reviews about the recording quality. So im looking for opnions on the best TV card to add to the shuttle to turn it into a great HTPC.

I got a budget of about 150ish dollars but if theres really a good one out there for around 100 bones thats cool too. I dont know much about tv cards so thats why im looking for opnions...TIA :D

oh yea im running a P4 3.0C w/ 1GB of HyperX DDR400 and 200GB WD HD on the shuttle...with a few homebrew mods in mind :D ...can't wait to get it up and running.

...suggest away! :p

edit: sorry if this should be in general hardware

Fortunately, it's a pretty easy question.

It's not a terribly high-volume field, and there are a lot of players - which means competition tends to set the prices accurately.

IE., you tend to get what you pay for.

Take a look at Newegg's "Video Device" section, find some cards in your price range, and read the user reviews.

Hauppage tends to have a good reputation, and Canopus is the best of the best for consumer-level recording cards. Of course, their prices reflect that, as I noted above.

Anyway, take a look.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that you should pay attention to their software bundles. The ATI cards (including the All-In-Wonder and TV Wonder cards) can play the TV signal within their excellent 'Media Center'. Make sure the card you are looking at has a software package for playing the signal that you are familiar with, or is a reputable name. For example, KWorld has their own brand of media player and it is....poor....to say the least.

ignore it all and just go with the hauppaug pvr 250, 250mce or 350 it is the best tv card bar non for HTPC use and features HARDWARE Encoding not software so you can time shift tv with ease and also use other programs like beyond TV, sagetv, or even MCE if you have a MSDN Subscription :)

btw visit htpcnews.com if you are doing HTPC Stuff :)

IMO hauppaug charges too much for their cards. I went for the MSI because it also does HARDWARE encoding and came with a great software package. It also has a solid state tuner.

I like my Hauppage 250, it does everything I want it to do. I am going to get the ATI HDTV wonder. Would love to get HDTV signals to my computer. I would wait until that gets released in a few weeks.
