What would you do with $300 if you had to spend it on something that contributed to folding? GPU addin to current folder? Low budget amd build? Use it to complete and bring alive a few parts laying around the house?

I personally think I would try and build a budget amd machine. I haven't owned an AMD in a very long time and it would be a nice little nostalgia build that i might get 1 or 2k ppd out of :)

..What would YOU do?

couple GPUs or a case for the SR-2. I dont think building a full system that cheap is worth it.

Get a S1366 i7 CPU and case to get a system up and running.
Have everything else (RAM, PSU, vid card, HDD, optical, mobo).

The same thing we do every night Pinky.....

For me: buy a couple more UPSs to bring me up to a wopping 3 min of backup time if the power flickers.

For you: I have a system that I'm looking at off loading, send me a PM ;)

Save it and continue to add to it until you have enough for some bigadv folder like a 2600K machine or possibly Bulldozer, depending on results. The days of adding cheap little machines to your farm as a solid strategy are long past. If you have $300 that you would want to spend on folding stuff, you are past the "casual folder" stage.

For me, it would be similar - save it to go to processor upgrades. $300 by itself wouldn't help much, but it is a good start toward a set of 4 dodecas or even IL procs.

buy some H&B ....... makes me happier so moar folding gets done.

however, i would use it to upgrade probably, or bank it like musky said for later upgrade

I think everyone's on the same page in saying that dollar value is better put toward one component, not one build.

I sure hope H&B is hookers and beer... or blow?

....your not in Gen May quite often are ya ?

tis Hookers and Blow ......

hookers and blow is right up there with liquor and whores in my book

It was more of a literal question. If you had $300 right now, what would you do with it for your folding situation. :) Just for fun

I would pick u a couple of those motherboard trays from Spotswood :)

I'd pay about 2/3 of my current power bill (and I'm not even folding at home right now) :(

300 bucks, i'd by a bunch of 8800GT's overclock them and rape the gpu3 non fermi WU's for the excessive points they give out on g92 based cards. (no they still haven't fixed the points system on them and they still give out over 5500 PPD)
