What Would You Do? 360/PC

When you combine all the Xbox 360 exclusives, including the XBLA titles, add Netflix, the lower price of the console, built in Windows Media Center Extender, Xbox Live (and other friends with Xbox Live), that alone will easily pass 100 reasons. Move along.

And all I and others are saying it was the right choice in our opinion.

And others are saying in THEIR opinions that getting a 360 when you have a PC and PS3 is a poor choice. Are the opinions of others only valid if they concur with your opinions?

If you have a PS3 you don't need to get a 360 for:

XBLA
Media Center
Xbox Live

The only real reason to get a 360 when you have a PS3 and PC would be for the exclusives. However, since 95% of those 360 exclusives are also released on PC, in my opinion, it makes having the 360 pretty pointless.

I would ask you the same question then. You can't have it just your way. I see no reason why you insist on discounting other peoples opinions if they don't agree with yours. :(

95%? Please document.

It's in the same document that has over 100 reason to own a 360.

I just gave you 100. Did you want me to give you an itemized list? Look at the info I gave you, and then go look at the arcade titles and 360 exclusive titles, the DLC exclusive content, and all the multiplayer advantages the 360 has with Live due to having truskill and ranked games for every title.

Absolutely someone should have a 360, PS3 and PC. IMO, if you could only afford 2, I would go with the 360 and PC. Fortunately I have them all, so I have no complaints in that regard.

I still haven't opened my XBOX yet. I did get in the queue to step-up to a GTX 285. With shipping it's $90. Probably didn't need the small upgrade that it is but I'll kind of feel better about it. I'm going to look into moving the PC out to the living room to try it on the Sony, while checking latency, etc.

In the end it looks like I'll have both the XBOX and the PC thing going.

Man, I can't believe how good it feels to still be off WoW.

Has kept me pretty clean for a while. Whether you go with the 360 or the PC (no need to upgrade I agree on that) just buy some games with your excess cash. There's so many good games you've missed out on over the last year or so.

Dude, The flexibility of your already substantial PC would blow either PS3 or Xbox360 in nearly every department, and you already own a PS3 which makes the console buy far less attractive. Current generation consoles are in 720p or less and even if you stuck with your GTX 260, you could play 95% of pc games out maxed out or close @ 1080p as your standard. How many Xbox360 exclusive games merit the cost of a dated system when you already have such a capable PC and a PS3 to boot? GoW2, Fable 2, hmm, im running out of exclusives to list. DLC is hardly a factor when you place the PC against the Xbox due to game modders (underworld has multitudes of clothings packs already made for the PC). You can play multiplayer on nearly every game you buy for free with and internet connection (opposed to your fee for XBOX Live). With all of these advantages of the PC over the XBOX 360, and when you factor in the fact that you can surf the internet(with a nice browser, not some shitty console browser), download craploads of mods and files for FREE (as opposed for paying for it on the console) and watch movies, just to name a few, it kinda makes this a now brainer. I mean, why pay money for a console when you can pay nothing, by using the PC you already have to play all of these games.

Game in real glory on your expensive TV with your PC by utilizing the potential of your already very capable PC.

Do the right thing ;), Go pick up some pc games, and take that 360 back

Without question upgrade the videocard and as others have suggested, hook up your PC to your TV. The main reason I say this is because you already own a PS3. Most games are coming out on both Xbox 360 and the PS3, so buying a 360 would only be worth it to you if there are very specific games you're looking to play that are ONLY available on the 360. Yeah, there are some, but not that many and even fewer that are really good.

Upgrade the PC!!
I have the 360, PS3, and a pretty good PC. My video card (280) seems to be handling EVERY game out there right now quite well. I can't see any games coming out in the next 12 months that will put more stress on my system than the current batch of games.

As for upgrading...here's how to spend $300.
Get a GTX285
Upgrade the monitor (no point in having a great video card on a crappy monitor)
Get COD4!!
Orange Box (it'll keep you busy for a LONG TIME!)
Fallout 3,

There you go...that should keep you busy.

Besides, you'll get a lot more use out of your computer than a 360

Yep, I bought a 360 last Sunday and hooked it up yesterday. Went through the whole setup and started Dead Rising.

I bought used copies of Madden 2009 (PS3) and Assassin's Creed (XBOX) this morning. I know Assassin's Creed is available for PC but as I said earlier in the thread, I'm tired of being parked in front of the PC for long hours gaming. My wife is also happier when out in the living room with her, even if I'm playing something on one of the consoles. At this point, I'm too lazy to haul my computer out to the living room.

My gaming tendencies are driven by mood so it's best for me to have a number of options.

And now I do...

That you can afford all three and are happy with them is all that really matters. I would have just bought games that I wanted for the platforms I already had, but that is just me.

I agree. As per my sig I have a pretty good rig, but I don't have a PS3 or X360. I'd get both if I had the money, but right now I just want a 360 to go w/ the 2 games I have for it. (Yeah, I bought 2 games for a console I dont have....yet. Good deal on them though, <$30 for both, NIB on ebay :D). I think the 1st thing I'd like to get for PC or console is a new/bigger HDD for my PC.

ninja edit: I have a PS2 and orig Xbox, 20+ games for the PS2 & just 2 games for the Xbox, lol(basically 1 game, since it's PGR 1+2, car games).

You dont need to upgrade your GTX260 to enjoy most of the games you mentioned, it's a decent card and all the slightly older games like Bioshock are going to look great.

Having said that I wouldn't blow that money on an Xbox360 either, just my opinion but if you have a decent PC a console is a waste of money, I'd save the money or put it towards buying a nice pile of games to keep you occupied while you go through your WoW withdrawls, and remember if you see babies walking across the ceiling, thats perfectly normal, good luck!

im just baffed that he has a ps3 and a gaming rig and still wanted to buy a 360. one of the games he did buy was a game thats on the pc that looks better and costs peanuts now(mass effect).

seriously most 360 games make there way to the pc and onto the ps3 too. i'l give it 2 weeks max before the OP gets bored of his 360 :)

I guess you missed the posts where I said I'm sick of being tied to my computer desk. Which is where I'd been for a lot of hours since I started playing WoW in November 2007, and the wife is sick of it, too.

I am looking at comparisons of games between the systems and in cases where one is definitively better than the others, that's the system I'll purchase the game for. Mass Effect appears to be better on the PC than any other platform. I snagged it the night I bought my 360 because it was $13.

It will be nice to have my in-laws over to play Left 4 Dead on the 360. My wife loves the arcade games. Maybe I will get bored with it. In any case, I'm stuck with it now and no regrets so far. So, please, my friend: don't be baffed on my account. :D

Most of the games that come out on the 360 are on the PC as well. If you are not playing your PS3 then I doubt you will play the 360 after the novelty wears off. I would get a couple PS3 games and see if you stick with it and like "leaving your office" to enjoy the comfort of the couch.

If you stick with it then a 360 might be in your future.

:) good luck.

you could always move your pc into your living room? anyways hope your happy with your 360 mate good luck

Personally. I'd spend the money on a 360. I certainly don't have anything against PC gaming, but you've already got a GTX 260. Going from a 260 to a 295 isn't going to give you any more options on what games you can play, just enable you to click on a couple of extra graphical features. Getting the 360 though will open the door to a lot of games that you don't have access to on the PC, and you'll still be able to enjoy all the PC games you want to your heart's content with the system you already have.

Edit: On second thought, spend the money on GAMES. If you haven't played anything but WoW for the last 14 months you've got enough PC games to keep you occupied for the next 6 months easy before you even need to be looking to upgrade your hardware or buy a console.

if u can afford it there is no reason not to go with all the consoles , having the option to play what you want when you want is what it's about. i would have made the same decision.

I mentioned earlier I downloaded the demo for Tomb Raider: Underworld on the PC. It looks, sounds, and plays well. This weekend I installed the FEAR 2 demo. Same deal--looks and sounds great.

But when I'm using the mouse and keyboard to play the game, I find myself still trying to do WoW things, like move the camera. No kidding, when I killed some tigers in the Tomb Raider: Underworld demo, I instinctively right-clicked to loot them. If I'm at my PC and I'm talking on my cell phone, I keep pushing my right control key whenever I talk like I'm in Ventrilo.

WoW is EVIL. ;)

hehe, been there too man, it's amazing how much it conditioned us.

Time for this post to die. The original reason for it has been resolved. The OP bought a 360 and is upgrading his video card.

"In the end it looks like I'll have both the XBOX and the PC thing going."

So get off your soapboxes console and PC fanboys.

http://adrianwerner.wordpress.com/games-of-2009/ Sorry couldn't help myself. :p

wow, what a waste of time.

Asked opinion and did exactly what everyone (with the exception of 2-3 posters) advised against. Guess OP likes wasting money

Well, what do you expect when they ask this in a PC centric forum? I imagine the answers would have been different if he was posting this at joystiq, IGN, GAF, etc.

if he is happy with his purchase and has the means to pay for it then i fail to see how it is a waste of "his" money.

if i had the money i would do the same thing, there is no reason to limit your options if you don't have to.

It was hardly a waste of time as far as I'm concerned. I benefited from many perspectives before deciding to exercise both of my initial options (I made some extra money doing an unexpected IT side job).

Opinions and advice are just that, and not directives on what to do. It's evident from your post that I didn't do what you wanted me to do. Real sorry about that. Next time I'll try to goose-step more to your liking.

To everyone else who kindly shared their perspectives, I thank you very much for taking the time to do so. I have read HardOCP and her discussion forums for years and value the articles and insight Kyle and company provide, but this site's greatest asset is its attached community.
