What would you buy?

If money is tight and you want a system that can handle rome total war at I'd say normal settings without any noticable lag and choppiness would you buy a 6800 vanilla or x800pro? If money is real tight a 9800pro or something maybe 9800XT should be enough right?

6800 vanilla or check out the 6600gt maybe. 9800pro and xt doen't offer the bang for the buck right now, or the next gen capabilities. I wouldn't rule out x800, but I don't have one and am not taking up that argument.

Yes the x800 pro costs more but it would be the better of the two cards you're asking about (the x800 pro costs 400 while the 6800NU costs 300)
Although If you went for the Pro, I'd say go for the 6800GT instead

If money is tighter, and you go for 9800pro or 9800xt...don't worry...it's a VERY good card.
Just make sure you are buying in the right price range (say a 6800NU costs 300 and a 9800xt costs 300...get the 6800NU)
