I have a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra motherboard with ram dividers of 232, 216, 200, 166, 133, 100. I'm looking to overclock my 3200+ venice processor to between 2.4 and 2.6 Ghz. My ram is Corsair Valueselect PC3200 (DDR 400) with timings of 2.5-3-3-8. I successfully overclocked to 2.4 Ghz before with 20+ hours of Prime95 stability. (This being with a 166 divider, 240 FSB and a x10 multi). However, after several attempts at running Half Life 2, the game would lock up and force me to restart.

What I'd like to know is if I reduce my ram's speed to 166 or 133 (in order to lower multi and increase FSB), would that reduce performance by a considerable margin? Essentially, I'd like to know if it's better to run at a higher CPU speed with lower ram speed or vice versa. If possible, please explain what increasing my FSB but reducing my ram's speed will do for my system, and add what you think the best performance would be for me.
 
Most places I've read, its best to go for pure CPU speed with the A64. As the ram bandwidth is pretty big, knocking it down a little to push the CPU further is no bad thing.
 
No ram speed is minimal. Its still important but not like ure going to beat ure butt about it.

Are you set to 2T? Also, what is your ..crap forgot what it is..HT or HTT?? should be at 4x
Bump cpu & mem voltage, too.
 
id say HTT would be best at 3x wouldnt it? make sure its at 1t command rate and if you drop your divider to 133 or something, drop the latencies aswell if your below 200 on your ram
 
Try some other games before you start to blame your overclock. If Prime and Memtest are stable, I don't see why HL2 wouldn't be. Did you try updating video drivers and/or reinstalling HL2?

As for priority, raw CPU speed first, RAM speed and timings later.
